Opinion on Aftermarket Wheels and Backspacing

I'm looking at buying new wheels in a few weeks and I want to make sure I get it right... I am looking at some 18" wheels and I will be running a 33x12.50x18. The wheels I found come in a 5.50" Backspacing with +12mm Offset or a 6.00" Backspacing with +25 mm Offset. What backspacing would be better running a 12.50" wide tire? I don't want to rub the control arms or the back outer edge of the fender.

I have heard that people running stock wheels (6.25" Backspacing) with 12.50" wide tires rub the control arms. Will a 6.00" Backspacing wheel rub the control arms with a 12.50" wide tire mounted up? I want to avoid this problem and I also don't want to hit the back of the fender corner.

What's the happy medium?

18"x9" Wheels with 5.50" Backspacing and +12mm Offset
OR
18"x9" Wheels with 6.00" Backspacing and +25mm Offset

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE...

Well, I'll throw my opinion in there...

I'd go with the 6" backspacing. They *may* rub on the control arms slightly, but losing a little paint here is much better than fender contact.

My wheels are 17 x 9 with 5.71" backspacing, and my 12.50 tires rubbed the fender...

Go with the 6" backspacing

I have 17x8s with 5.25" backspacing and 35x12.50s. They do not rub the fender or control arm. Just touch my mudflaps.

Correct if I'm wrong, but wouldn't widths effect the backspacing?

Like a 18x9 wheel with 6" of backspacing will stick out of the fender the same as a 18x8 wheel with 5" backspacing?

Either way, your going to want fender flares.

Thanks Guys...

Anyone else have an opinion one way or another on the backspacing?

I'm leaning towards the 6.00" Backspacing over the 5.50" Backspacing. After I posted this thread I ran the conversion on my possible tire choices for the 18's and the one size may rub on the control arm... It works out to be roughly 33.4"x12.8"x18" ... This may rub on the control arm when mounted on a 6.00" backspaced wheel??? The other tire choice works out to roughly 32.4"x12.0"x18". I just want to get the wheel backspacing right.
