Next step in EGT control?
I'm not sure what direction I need to head now to try and keep my EGT's in check? I'm running an '03 H.O. 6-speed with a 4" dual exhaust (still 3.5" at the turbo outlet, though...), Pacbrake, Scotty III with the UNI filter, TAG-III, and a Bully Dog Downloader on the "TOW" program. I've still got to really really keep an eye on my EGT's when pulling any reasonable hill while towing, despite all the mfg's claims about the above mods helping to keep EGT's in check. What would the next logical step be to help keep things reasonable? Bear in mind I'm not racing, just wanting to maintain 55-65mph while towing. TIA!!

Start by installing the 4" elbow(can only flow as much as the smallest opening), are you lugging the truck while towing? What happens if you drop a gear and get the rpm's up? Lugging will always cause egt's to soar, remember you need airflow in the exhaust to keep things cool, no airflow no cooling. Occasional temps @ 1350 are ok but I would not suggest driving constantly at that temp. Is your Pacbrake 3.5 or 4"(more restriction)? If you are good in the exhaust dept. then you might try a larger turbo. Pier's has a modified stocker that might fit your bill ,try giving them a call, last time I looked it was around $500 exchange.

I was running a AFE drop in with the stock air box. I installed my BHAF and Banks 4" downpipe at the same time and my EGTs dropped 100 degrees. I'd say the DP probably helped more than the BHAF. You can also get a turbo elbow now that is 4" all the way. I believe it's what comes on the new trucks..

Unfortunately, my Pacbrake is also setup for the 3.5" outlet so without going through the expense of replacing it AND my downpipe setup, I can't do much there. So what's the deal with the ~$500 replacement turbo? Anyone have experience with it that they can share? I'll give them a buzz in the meantime...

the new turbo will help a little BUT it WILL be more than $500, the turbo is choking the engine alot and the exhaust isn't helping either. try to find just the part of the exhaust brake that is 3.5 and get one for an '04.5 Same turbo outlet but with a 4"outlet and sell the parts that you have now.

The turbo and possibly low rpms will work against you once you start to put some power to these trucks. The limits for EGT reduction happen far faster on the 3 gen Rams then the 2 gen Rams. There are several options out there for a single charger and the Scotty 3 will work well with any upgraded turbo.
