Newbie Mod question - which box for me???
Newbie Mod question - which box for me???
First post here boys - go easy on me ...
2003 2500 HD 305/555 6 speed 4x4 Quad Cab SB LSR. Other than just normal "pick-up truck stuff" I tow boats back up and down the east coast a few times a year (typcally under 10,000 lbs loaded trailer weight) and Harleys back and forth to Daytona twice a year, (upgrading to bigger fifth wheel motorcycle, trailer probably about 12,500 to 15,000 lbs loaded trailer weight).
Running about sea level on basically level roads and not wanting to "go hog wild" on mods I would like to get away with "just a box" and not have to do intake or exhaust mods. I've been around engines my entire life - be they in trucks, cars, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, heavy equipment - you name it. I know that an engine is basically a pump and that the way to get more power is to : 1) increase volume in/volume out through: a) displacement; b)rpm; c)denser [more O2] induction charge and/or; 2) make the explosion more violent which can be accomplished in a variety of ways.
With all of that said, I just want to unleash a little more of what I hope is in there and really do not want to do wiring and the like. I'm looking for "plug and play" so to speak!
Soooo......
Is there a product that can simply "plug in" and allow me to alter the effects through different settings? Or, is there something that just plugs in and does not allow operator inputs? Or, am I just kidding myself by thinking that putting more fuel to it without other mods is going to accomplish anything other than costing me money and making smoke?
Thanks in advance.

You could probably run a EZ box on level 3 or a Quadzilla Tow box without any other mods BUT if you're towing you should get at least an EGT guage. HOs tend to get a little hot while towing and with that 12-15,000lb trailer behind you, you might hurt something if you weren't able to monitor it. Having said that, I ran around w/ my EZ on level 4 with no guages for about a year w/ no problems. I even towed 10-12,000lb like that but I was always worried that I should have guages. I have no mountains to speak of around here so I figured my temps would be fine and I was right but I did have exhaust and intake mods already.
Jehu,
The guys are right you need gauges, but if you go with the Edge Juice and Attitude you get gauges, safety EGT de-fueling features etc all in one package. Depending on your usage you might need exhaust and intake after you inastall the J/A based on the EGT's you have.
Give us a call we have a special DTR J/A price and we also have he color matched A pillar Attitude mounts as well as the overhead Attitude mounts.

I am leaning towards the quadzilla box because I have read it help out quite a bit with the low end lag.
If you are towing something 10,000lbs with a box I would think guages would be a must.
I looked into the juice/attitude as posted above but was told (this is hearsay) without stacking say the edge with it the low end would not be that impressive. Someone chime in if I am offbase. It was a dealer who had had both of them on his truck.
As it stands right now I am leanign towards the quad race box (figure why not get something upgradable even thoug I will proably not use the 130/140 setting until I do tranny work). run it in 60hp most of the time have the 100hp to play with and the 130hp on tap if I ever decide I want a bit more power. I see a trend of people buying a box and then wanting more. so I figure buy more than I think I need and maybe will be done.
then just add gauges or if quads monitor is out maybe run that. Dakota digital has a 3 in one gauge solution that I am looking at as I like the idea of one guage in the srt-10 pillar so you have that it could have been here stock look and keep my grab handle.
I am having the hardest time comiting and buying though case there are so many products out there.
