New Truck 48re ?s

I just purchased a new truck and I am wanting everyone heres input on tranny upgrades. How far can I go with just a valve body and a converter. Also, what is the best ones to buy. I cant afford a whole new trans now, but I do want to do a few upgrades to the trans, let me know what I need to do. This is my first auto. Thanks everyone.

You can go to around 500 Hp with just a VB,TC, and flexplate. If you tow over 17,000 GVW then you will need a billet input shaft. No boosted launchs with out billet input/output at least.

I would think that 500rwhp is way more than what it can handle with TC, VB and Flexplate. IMO. You might as well pay the extra $1000 for input.

It's $600 for a billet input shaft. Call Dave Goerend up and tell him what you want to do. He will guide you in the right direction.

Well I said $1000 because of install. I would do it myself, but I don't know it teamroper12valve could or would do it himself. Just being on the safe side with the money so he isnt stick shocked if he had one installed.

Thanks again all, I just dont have the money for the input and all right now, but I do appreciate the info. I just want to do what I have to for now with my few upgrades that I have. I tow a horse trailer and flat bed with equipment every once in a while and just want to be safe doing that. Any suggestions on brands? Thanks again.

With what you have now, your tranny will hold up just fine on LOWER settings. Get tranny temp and watch temp too. Asking about tranny brands is like talking OIL and politics. All GREAT trannys. Goerend, NADP, ATS, BD, DTT, and the list goes on. Some have better customer service than others. Your best bet would be to stick with Goerend, NADP IMO.......but they are all good.

My suggestion is to use the closest tranny builder to you. They are all very good like dslpwr81 said, its nice if they are close incase you have a problem.

About $3500 will build it strong enough for you, TC,VB, strap and some other key components. That price should be installed and all the parts, as long as everything else is in good condition. I would call Dave at Goerend and he should be able o tell you everthing.
