48RE Trailer pull Report / New Truck stuff

I pulled a 9000lb loaded trailer today with the new 48RE. I have one word to describe "****!" I can't even tell its back there. I can hold good speeds on the highway in OD and have good throttle response. The downshift is very responsive when I need to downshift. Most important the cruise stayed at 75 MPH and never went down once like on the 47RE. I have to give credit to the 4.10 gears as well, good stuff. I'm definately keeping this truck till the wheels fall off.

So it puts my old 47RE to shame. I'm glad I made the switch. I found out with the 4.10's my top speed is about 100 MPH. I got it up to 95 MPH the other day and still had room on the TACH. with no trailer on the back of course, I'm crazy but not that crazy. I won't ever run it that high again I just wanted to see what the limit was. My dealer told me the truck would only do 80 MPH with the 4.10's. I proved him wrong.

Gas mileage is about the same as the 47RE even with the 4.10's so I'm definatly happy about that. Of course with time the mileage will go up. I'm averaging about 16 MPG as of this afternoon. I'm off to go put my new running boards on. I don't want to show my pics till I get all the toys added on.

Ton4fun,

Have you driven a dually before? I was wondering how hard they are to get used to. I do believe that a dually is in my future, but am not sure.

Joe

Re:48RE Trailer pull Report / New Truck stuff

My 47RE was a dually same year 03 I drove it for about 6 months. I had a 1/2 ton regular cab dodge before that with an 8 foot bed. I have been driving trucks all my life and have gradually stepped up. It takes some skill but once you get used to getting around its like driving a car. You should see the looks on peoples faces as I pull into a gas station they have the deer in head lights look. They see a big truck trying to pull into a little parking spot. I hit the spot every time.

The real reason I bought the duals is because I think the quad cab with an 8 foot bed is ugly. The duals help the bed look smaller, not only that but they are great for towing heavy loads. I would have gotten a 2500 if I did'nt need the 8 foot bed. Its only money right?

Ton4fun,

ANy ideas how much having a dually versus single wheels would add to a similarly equipped truck?

Joe
