Need more HP for towing and pulling big grades...Smarty Jr????
My 04.5 is completely stock other than gauges. Towing up a long grade a few weeks ago, in the AZ summer heat, I briefly got up into the 1400 - 1500 range of EGT's, and on those long grades in the summer, often hit 1200-1400. Is this a problem?
I have hit alot of grades here in Oregon pulling my fifthwheel, Mt. Hood, Cascades, Cabbage Hill ect. {13k loaded} with the truck in my signature. We have gone up "Cow Canyon" several times it is a long continous steep grade east of Madras heading to Pendleton. I have an my Edge/WA set on #2 tow mode and egt alarm on 1350*. Once the alarm goes off I back off the throttle. I am usually going 65 mph I back down to around 55 mph which is fine with us. In no hurry to be anywhere {retired}. One thing to remember "Cummins might not win the race but will always finish the race". At the top of the Canyon is a rest area and about time to let the dog out, so we pull in let the turbo timer cool the turbo down to 350* and hit the rest room. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the recommendations I will definitely thake them into consideration......
Webby....1400-1500 is in the danger zone....
Soulezoo thinking of twins will the stocker turbo go with the super bee I already have ???? looking for cooler egt's and a little more oomph when passing and trailering on the big grades...Thanks Alex
