Need less smoke with Smarty Jr.
(04.5 Auto) 90% of the trucks use is spent towing 8,000# I do get a fair amount of soot on the trailer nose which is a real PIA to keep clean. Even not towing, the truck smokes on accel. Not "rollin' coal" smoke, but enough that i can see it in the mirror. My Smarty Jr. is a couple years old, so maybe there's a update for it. Currently running (SW2-TM4-TQ2) Is there another combo i should try that would help eliminate some of the smoke ?
Also, for what it's worth,... i get really crappy fuel economy. 10.5 towing.

I have my Smarty Jr (514b) set at a mild, SW-1, TM-2, TQ-4 & POD-90. Pulling our 12,000# across the U.S. (maximum speed of about 65 MPH) we averaged about 11.5 MPG. Towing, if I roll into the throttle from a stop there is little smoke, as is the same on grades under full throttle. But more important, at least to me, it lowered my EGT's 200-250 degrees.

Well, here i am again... 3 years later and still not satisfied with the amount of smoke i out out. Have not towed as much as i used to as late, but there is almost steady smoke even running around in town. Anyone else have a different recipe to try on the Jr. ?

My '07 would begin to smoke when I drove for mileage. I had a Smarty Sr.
Occasionally I'd let the engine warm up,then make a half dozen high rpm power runs. Smoke would pour out of it.
The cat would soot up but would cleanup with this procedure. EFI has not done this as it runs cleaner by far.
You might try that.

Thanks Rockcrawler, I may give that a try. Since my post a few days ago, i've contacted MAD's for help updating my Smarty Jr. While we were on the phone i asked for their advise. He recommended SW1, TM2, TQ2 So' i'll give that a shot. Said the TQ4 i was running could have been rough on my stock trans.
Towing later today, so will get to try it out soon.
