need guage help ASAP

so I am installing my gauges today and I have almost everything done. but I started the truck up and the fan cut the EGT wires. Can I use just regular wire or does it have to be a certain length or certain type? these are auto meter gauges. thanks guys, keep those fan belts clear.

I hate being the bearer of bad news but thermocouple wire is special. The type "K" thermocouple that is used with your pyro is made from Chromel & Alumel - if you want ANY type of accuracy you'll likely have to order a new thermocouple cable. As the tip of the thermocouple is heated, it produces a very small signal [millivolt (or thousandths of a volt) range]. If you even solder or splice the wire, it will cause measurement errors due to resistance and temperature differences at the splice.

If you cut it after the connection between the thermocouple and the harness, I don't see any reason that you couldn't just get a new harness and leave the thermocouple in place.

It was my understanding that the harness wires also had to be certin gauge and length. I think my DiPricol's said not to modifiy harness length because I guess they take into account current lose due to distance and resistance.

Theres no reason why you shouldnt be able just to get the cable - they should prolly just give it to ya if you bought a complete set of guages. Good Luck.
