Need: ARP Head stud install instruct/pics
Anyone got a pic of bottom tapping? I'm having a hard time grasping what's being tapped. I was thinking you just have to pull out the old studs and put in the new ones and call it good. What's the deal?
With more thread engagement you end up with less stress on the block threads and less chance of pulling the threads out of the block when you go to give the stud its final torque.
Bottom tapping is something that can only do good. There are no draw backs unless you somehow figure out how to mess up the process.
Once you tap the rest of the block hole and feel how soft it was then you'll be thankful that you did it.
OK, so I think I get it. The bore in the block itself for the studs isn't tapped all the way down. So, you tap it out a bit more to engage more of the threads on the new studs. Am I trackin'?
Are you runnin anything besides 12mm studs, as in rings?
Thanks for all the insight on the studds. I will definately bottome tap mine as if I am goin to the trouble to stud it, may as well do in right.
Also, how many times do you retorque em? How many miles between retorqueing?
I am hoping I can get the studs in, and on the last retorque drop in a set of F1s and call it good for a while.
