My Great Depression Revisited Budget Transmission Build Up
I've done a fair amount. Some people are running them with no problems and I have found a couple that seem to be having problems with them, but the ones that are having problems can't seem to give me a definitive answer as to what was wrong with them.
I called and spoke to PRW and I was satisfied with their knowledge and the way that they described their manufacturing process. I figured it was worth the risk and it might prove to be a good source of flexplates for others that are looking to buy, but don't want to drop the $400-$500 on a billet one.
Hoping it will be here today and I will go over it with a fine tooth comb and then have my builder do the same, compare it to the stock one etc. If it looks faulty in any way I will skip it and run the stock one and report the problems we found. If no problems are found it will go in with the rest of the stuff.

Well the one I am looking at isn't billet.
Here is the one I bought:

If you google PRW they are the first link that comes up.

Can you list all what parts you bought and where you got them.. I have been tracking this thread and im doing the same thing you are for the tranny. Also HAve you Dyno your truck. or what kinda numbers ou think it will hold with?????
Let us know how it goes man, I was thinking about doing the same thing im in wyoming and was gonna use a guy down in the denver area by the name of Fred, I can't remember his companies name, but seemed like a decent guy and was pretty much the same deal as yours but with a triple disk.
Let us know how it turns out.

Good luck with this build, if it works out I will know where to send the local guys!

The Small parts and shift kit I got from http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm
The pan I bought used and the Flexplate I bought is up a couple posts back.
I don't know what Branting's policy is on shipping converters etc. Actually when I spoke with him he said several companies were interested in buying and using his converters, but because of the whole issue of cores etc he elected to just sell the stators and let the companies build their own converters.
I have not dyno'ed my truck so I have no idea what my numbers are.
and they have always done great work for me. The owner works there full time and he's a very honest guy. I was hoping to get it in today, but since I was waiting for the flexplate I got bumped so it will be next week now before it all goes in.
I got the flexplate last night and it looks like a good unit to me. Of course I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but it is very stout and looks to be well made. I guess we'll see.
If you are looking for a budget tc I used a precision billet converter single disc that hauls my 46 ft enclosed. I have about 15K on it and I really like it. I had a much more expensive billet triple disc in it before which did not last 2500 miles. I paid $410 for the precision. I got mine from a local tranny shop but I think they sell them on ebay.
You think the transmission that you are building would be capable to hold a truck with a programmer, injectors, and fuel system. I know I will be needing a transmission is the near future. I have a programmer, and exhaust right now. Plans for the future would be a fuel system, and injectors which then I know I would need a transmission. I'm like you as well, I think a $6k transmission is overkill. I want something that would hold me playing around a little with the truck (a couple track passes, street pulls, and no pulling, a little 7k towing). and still get 100k miles out of the trans.

I'm gonna do pretty much the same thing.
I was speaking to a guy at a local tranny shop today, and his price for the upgrades spoken about here is going to come in around 2100. He did ask if I wanted the 6 speed valve something or another added in. I hadn't ever heard of this, and he said it would run about 250. Anyone have more knowledge on what he may have been talking about? Is this something for the new 6 speed tranny that can be adapted to our 4 speeds?
No idea what the 6 speed valve thing he was talking about is.
My truck is going in the shop Thursday morning and I should have it back Friday. So I will let you know soon how it all goes. I'm really excited
I just hope it all turns out good. I really think it will. I guess we'll know soon enough
