Moving heater/AC switchs to cubby hole ?
Moving heater/AC switchs to cubby hole ?
Anyone done this on the 05 ? I pulled the panel off & was just checking things out, but the screw pattern was different by about 1/2''. What are you doing to hold the heater/AC controls in place?
I made a template using the A/C control module. Used the template to mark cut out area needed to enlarge the cubby hole. I went down and out on the cubby hole, leaving the top edge alone. Then I was able to use the bottom cubby hole insert screw holes for the bottom of the A/C control module. The top cubby hole insert screw holes were just outside of the top of the A/C control module. I just used a washer on the screws. The washers overlap the A/C control module and hold it in place just like the screws would going through the holes. Clear as mud??? I did not take any pictures of the back of the console or I would post them.
I got mine at Geno's garage (online).
RamWheelsBy4- I want to install mine like yours but I'll be darned if I don't understand what the heck you did... You cut out the bottom opening larger to accept the a/c controls... that much I get. How the heck did you get it so perfect.... am I missing something... i don't want to screw that up... I don't know what I'd do.... Can you explain any other way?

Sorry about the slow response, been having ISP Cable issues. Seems the Coyote finally caught the dam RoadRunner.
1 Remove the center console. Remove the screw above the trash bag holder and the center console just snaps off. Unplug the A/C control wiring harness and any other wiring connectors.
2 Remove the Cubby Hole insert, 4 screws.
3 Remove the A/C Control Module, 4 screws.
4 Use A/C Control Module to make a cardboard template of the size of the A/C control.
5 Mark the Center Console with the template. I lined it up centered under the top edge of the cubby hole.
6 Use a dremel tool to grind/cut away the lower and a little of the outer area of the cubby hole. This is about an 1/8 inch sides to a 1/4 inch bottom. Go slow and keep using the A/C Control module to see when the hole is just big enough for the A/C Control module to fit through. It should fit in the new hole just snug about flush like in the top hole.
7 Use the lower two screw holes that the cubby hole insert was screwed into for the lower two mounting holes in the A/C Control module. You may have to enlarge the holes on the A/C Control module slightly as the screws will only go in at angle if you don't. They will hold either way, at least they did on mine at a slight angle.
8 Use washers on the screws that go into the top two screw holes that were used for the cubby hole insert. These should tighten with the washers holding the top edge of the A/C Control module firmly in place.
9 The console pod install is the same for the top hole as it is for the bottom hole. Although the hole is a little bigger the pod still covers the hole and the brackets still have area to hold pod and gauges in place.
Hope that is detailed enough to understand.

Thanks. I'll have to print your directions out and keep them on hand while I try my hand at this mod. Hopefully as I take everything apart, I'll be able to understand things better.
Thanks again,

Taking it apart should clear up things, I am assuming that the 2005 is no different from the 2004. Once you get it apart you can judge for yourself if you think you can cut the cubby hole and attach the A/C module. Because my gauges were already completely installed in the cubby hole slot I changed my mind when I first started to do it. Had the console off and everything loose and just did not see a way to do it without having to take the gauges completely out. Put it all back together. After 3 beers decided I knew how to do it. I do have one area on the bottom that I took a little more off than necessary. I attribute that to cutting to the wrong side of the line before thinking. Of course that was about 6 beers into the case.
Good Luck. I do like it better that way for sure.
