Mods on my truck, want to go faster, what do I do?

Hey guys.

Was cold here last night (just below freezing) but the country roads were dry, so I decided to try out my G-tech on the dodge. It ran 14.6 at 96mph. I've had this perticular g-tech (old style) in a few cars AT the track out here and the ET was always 100% bang on in FWD, RWD, whatever car I ran it in. But the mph was sometimes off a bit. We are at altitude here, but it was cold.

Anyhow, here is what i did/noticed:
Edge J/A level 5 only (nothing on ramifier).
15psi launch in 4hi
Hit just shy of 1450 EGTs in the manifold at the end, which I think is ok for short bursts.
Third to OD shift came a bit late, so I think the truck sat at the rev limiter for a split second (new HAWKS VB, otherwise works great).

I think my truck slowed down with the addition of the second magnaflow muffler (now have one magnaflow and one dynomax bullit, before had just the bullit, stock pipes otherwise, no cat)

I want to get this thing into the 13.9s. Its big and heavy and now runs 35" tires. My next mod is gonna be the glacier systems second lift pump with filter kit.

Should I sell the edge and get a SMARTY, or, should I send the edge in for a HOT reflash.

Will the smarty make more power? Can I bump the rev limiter with smarty to make it not stop dead at 3250? Can I dissable the speed limiter with SMARTY?

What else will I need?

Thanks guys.

upgrade to the hotjuice for $100. upgrade your cp3 along with that Glacier and you will be there most likely.

You can make it into the high 13 with the HOT Juice and MP-8 probably. But the stock turbo is going to be way past efficiency. It will be a bottle neck to get any lower.

A Smarty and the MP-8 might do a little better, the Smarty will fuel through higher rpms and will remove enough torque management to make the pulling in 3 strong until the OD shift.

Of course you should really get a LP and turbo upgrade to run 13s and not push things to the nuke point.

I agree with the Turbo idea.

I have been considering this for some time. My truck is approaching 50,000 miles with mods in sig and no faliures yet. I don't beat the crap out of it, but I do work it from time to time.

BUT, this is also my work truck. I use it to make money and it needs to stay reliable. So a turbo will be in my near future.

I am not sure what to get tho. Is there a turbo that is a bit better then stock, something that will retain stock style spool yet move more air up top? Twins would be nice, but beyond my budget and scope of this truck.

What would a turbo upgrade cost roughly? Would I need to upgrade the intercooler at this point?

I REALLY like the edge because it lets me cut power on the fly, or add power on the fly. But the idea of torque managment reduction is nice!

Depends on the truck apparently. SMARTY and mp-8 on my truck was considerably slower than HOT Juice and mp-8.

With a 15psi launch, the HOT Juice will put you right at 14. And yes at that point you really SHOULD do a turbo, BUT, I ran a pressure box with the HOT Juice with the stock turbo and stock lift pump and stock cp3 for quite a while. That should break into the 13s but might be a little high on egts.

Oh yeah, and on the 3-4 shift, it has nothing to do with your new valve body. The VB only controls 1-2 and 2-3, the 3-4 is computer controlled.

Well a lot of people are going to the II Silver 62 series turbo for all around performance. They say the spool is close to stock and it will support well into the 500hp range.

I have an II SPS66 that I don't necessarily recommend unless you really want to spend some money. That said, I have ran mine with stock injectors, cam and cp3 for a long time now and am happy with it. I just give it enough fuel to light when ever I want.

With the II SPS66 and FASS, the HOT Juice/EZ stack ran 13.8s ETs all day long with no EGT issues and never once threw a code.

You are just pushing that borderline that you need to consider the next level mods to stay reliable.

The 3-4 shift will be fixed with a smarty...or some of the other dl's.

You can make 500 plus with a Hot juice and the right amount of pressure.

You can make 500 plus with the right DL and the right amount of pressure.

At the same hp...IMHO...say Smarty and MP-8 should be faster because of the width of the powerband...and reduction in TM.

For my truck...I could not dyno quite as high with the DL in the mix...but it shaved .5 of my 1/4.

TST/MP-8...was kinda a dyno queen.

Smarty/MP-8...was kinda a low end race car.

TST/MP-8/Smarty...the best combo I could have.

The first question is how much do you want to spend?

If it is not much...I would upgrade to Hot first...then look for a turbo...then come back and ask later! LOL
