03 would be the same as 04. except you could get the 235//250/305 hp levels in 03, and only 235/305 in 04 when the SO was dropped as the slushbox could be had with the HO engine [cali emissions spec was still avalable for the 5 states emissions trucks]

Regarding the pulley bolts, with a 6spd trans - just put the trans in 6th gear and put the park brake on. It might turn a little bit before the drivetrain slack is taken up but then its not going anywhere.

I have an 03 with the so and it really woke up the low end. It was pretty doggy up to about 1500-1600 rpm before. Now it really picks itself up from idle to when the turbo begins to blow. Great mod in my opinion.

Does anyone know if this modification throws off the overhead. I just installed it yesterday and the overhead is all over the place.

Nice to hear from a 03. How do you mod your timing wheel?

Turned out pretty good on my '03. More low end grunt and picked up about 1mpg.

Mine is thrown off even more now. Reads about 2mpg lower under the same driving conditions with the sensor mod. But my hand calculated fuel economy increased by 1 mpg.

Haven't run a whole tank through yet, by my overhead went better by 2-3mpg. Should be able to hand calc one in 2 days.... Fuel is tooooo expensive now to just bomb around for the sake of burning fuel

I did mine today. It took all of 35 minutes to get it done. I have not driven it yet only started it. Wife called just now coming home from work (anti-mod. to anything) and ask what you doing ohh nothing much just picking up tools from replacing Robert's Ford 7.3 water pump job last night

overhead mileage

the overhead displays are not reliable in any way. since working at the dealer I have decided they are a useless option. I have a couple of customer trucks that i am going to try the tone ring trick to and see what happens. these trucks at stock are running 1100'F under load, customer is scared to turn on chip! and of course how would Chrysler fix something like this just imagine calling techline with this problem!

Thumbs up

I'll add my results if anyone is interested.

I moved the tone wheel about 2 degrees and that smoothed out the idle and gave me the added low end that everyone has been talking about. I ran the truck that way for about 3/4 of a tank of fuel and averaged my best ever mixed driving mpg at 15.45. Thats including my trip to the dragstrip where I made five full throttle passes. No CEL on or any codes set. No drivability issues at all.

I removed the wheel and elongated the bolt holes so I could move it about six degrees. I also changed the diffs to 75-90 synthetic and ran the tires at 70psi instead of 55 psi.

Now the truck has even more low end. My ball peen hammer knock at idle is almost completely gone. My truck smokes a little more on start up. It cranks longer on start up also. It will now put out double the smoke as before. It now leaves a trail instead of just a big puff when my Quad box is on the higher settings. Much more soot on the rear QP. I also think that my truck has less drone than before and the engine clatters much less, even with the Quad box turned up. The best of all, I just recorded my best ever mpg again, at 16.95 mostly city.

My previous 8 tankfulls before moving the tone wheel averaged out to 13.47mpg. I know this is not accurate after just two tanks but I'm sure I gained at least 1 mpg just from the tone-ring change, maybe more. Now if I can get a torque convertor ,maybe I can get 18 around town.

Do it Because of all the extra soot I may have to leave the door open so my cat can get away.

Has anyone thought of a name for this mod for our signatures yet?? I think it deserves one. I've been driving with it for over a week and I can't seem to empty my tank to calc my new mileage. I think tomorrow I'm gonna take a few more thou out of the hole after reading that last post... Don't know if I'm brave enough for 6degs though.....
