MBRP resonator...whats in it, hows it work?

i want my drone gone...eliminated...killed!...i hate it and so do my passengers.
right now i have a 20" magnaflow where the cat was and a 6" bully dog from there back. the drone at 2000 rpm and up is terrible. thinking about getting a MBRP resonator. i am wondering how it is made/what is in it/is it straight through like most diesel mufflers. i want my truck to be as loud and deep as possible on the outside and as close to stock sounding on the inside. this is a lot to ask for but its what i am shooting for. anybody have any experience with this product...good or bad. if this doesnt work i guess i will try a donaldson (price????)....but i'm affraid it will make it too quiet...do they make a 6" if so i think this would be the best route to get the exterior volume i am looking for...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

on my 05 dually i placed a 30" magnaflow off the dp and then put a roxx silent might muffler. it is all 4" and there are no drone inside the cab even when pulling 10,000 lbs. works great

I also have a drone I'm trying to get rid of. In addition to the MBRP here's another resonator: http://store.airflo.com/m090072.html

It would be nice to know if one is better than the other.

JD 70,

Adding a muffler/resonator will help a lot, how much on your 6 inch system is a question I can't get you a complete answer to as we have never used one on a 6 inch system. We sell a lot and I mean a lot of the stainless and aluminized resonators for Dodge and Duramax folks that have the drone problem, it has been very successful and does the trick on 4 inch systems very well. On your 6 inch I would imagine it will do just as well but we just won't know till someone like you actually uses it to see what the results are. if you have room add our 30 incher, it'll work even better, but you'll have to measure to see if you have that much room left in the straight sections of your system.

when you guys say "30 incher" are you talking about a 30 inch muffler or resonator....i have never seen the inside of a resonator to know the difference. i know that before i took of fthe cat and was running the 6 inch cat back it still had a drone so if a resonator is like a cat its probably not going to do the trick. so to get the results that i am looking for (quiet interior...loud exterior) am i better off to go with a res or an additional muf?...are the resonators a straight true design?

JD 70,

Resonator or muffler basically the same thing except for length of the can. Resonators are shorter and mufflers are longer, never liked the designation as it's confusing to folks but it was in effect long before I was old enough to drive etc. Basically get the longest that will fit, that will provide you the best sound control.

there have been some success stories with people stiffining the straig section between the downtube and the muffler itself, seems that straight section itself resonates. Adding a bit of angle ironsay 30 inches long clamped to the top of the tube for starters using band clamps at each end and two more evenly spaced in the middle. works by stopping the tube itself from making noise. knda like grabbin a chime and then trying to ring it. The other end of the problem lies at the end of the system, a liittle too aggressive on cutting the length of the tip and it ends up under the fender allowing the nois to get under the tucka nd then inside it. my tip sticks out just as far as my H2 takeoffs and gets the soud out and away from the truck.

I would try a turndown exhaust tip. Points the exhaust down reducing the sound a lot.

JC- Did you put the 30" just in front of the Magnaflow? Did you have to make any clearance adjustments?

Another idea would be to put the Aeroturbine 5050L where the cat used to be and run the Bullydog muffler in the stock location.
