MBRP Exhaust
I just installed the exhaust over the weekend so I don't have much time with it yet. The sound is definitely coming from the tail pipes and can hear it in the cab with the windows up. The sound is most noticeable when I am accelerating 0 – 40, not when I am cruising. At 60 and above it’s almost the same as stock, again when cruising. Its just that around town driving that is loud! I leave very early for work so I bet the neighbors will say something soon.
Performance wise, I am not sure. It seems quicker but it’s probably just the noise making it “feel” faster. I am hoping for better mpg with it – currently getting 17mpg before the mod.

You can put a resonator in the system somewhere. It will sound better sticking one after the muffler. Donaldson makes a straight through resonator that just gives the sound a place to bounce around a little bit. A resonator is like a short nine inch long muffler, but with nothing in it...big hollow space. Will transform the sound into a deep rumble instead of that raspy ricer sound. 4" inside diameter, so it will slip over your existing pipe. Just cut a little section out, slip it on, and clamp in place. There are a couple people here who have put one on and are happy with it. Just a thought.

THANK YOU AK RAM - that is exactly what I was looking for.
Question, you said to add it after the muffler for better tone - what will happen if I add it before the muffler?
I have more space before the muffler and only have to add 1 instead of 2.

What muffler did you get? I have the 30" long one on my truck. I believe there is a long and short muffler.
WHen I had the short muffler it had a odd tone at 2100 rpm. I noticed that the truck reved quicker after I installed the exhaust.

I just installed mine a week ago and love it. It is LOUD
but doesn't sound like a ricer at all. It's a good rumble at idle and roars going through the gears. Kind of reminds me of my old '67 Impala SS. I do notice a slight drone inside the cab around 2000 rpms but nothing I didn't want. I ask for loud and I got it. I believe it actually sounds better than my old 2000 did. Now for some gauges, fuel box, air intake, nerf bars (for the lady), etc, etc, etc....

If you want to add a resonator, you can add it before or after the muffler. I only know one person that put his before, and he says that was the ticket for him. Loves the sound. Either way it will quiet it down a lot. Generally though, it will produce the most dramatic effect placing it after the muffler if possible, since it is the muffler that is causing the raspy loudness that is bothering you.
Look at this muffler...it's on the same site: http://shop.airflowonline.com/Mercha...egory_Code=EIO This is the muffler that I am running. This muffler is your standard straight through design with all the little holes on the inside, then the last 8 inches or so is hollow. That is a built in resonator. This muffler makes the truck sound like a big log truck. A nice deep mellow sound. You get a cool turbo whistle through the exhaust as well. The only problem is there are no hangars to attach it to the stock hangar points on the truck. If you don’t have a welder, stopping by a local muffler shop and having them weld it up for you would probably be your best bet. If interested, you can go to the Donaldson Muffler corporate web site and use their dealer locator page to find a place locally that sells them: https://dynamic.donaldson.com/webc/W...r/locator.html A lot of big trucks use them so they are fairly common. I took the muffler part number to the local Freightliner distributor and they sold it to me for $50 bucks. Can’t beat that. Good luck.

RamRat,
From your description it sounds like the muffler is a one inlet, dual outlet design. Where does the lefthand pipe cross over to the left hand side of the truck? In front of the axle or behind it? Thanks,

J.T. My mufler is 18 inches long then it splits into 2 pipes for each side of the truck.
O.J. To me the truck sounds like 18 wheeler LOUD!
B.H. the muffler crosses the the rear axle just a little to the driver side of the center of the pumkin. It wraps around the shock and exits
