Max Tire Size for Ram 2500

Hi folks:

I am new here. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 extended bed truck with the Cummins Diesel. I am going to purchase new tires this week and would like to know a couple things:

What is the largest sized tire I can put on the truck without having to lift the truck? And, if I were to lift the truck with a leveling kit, would I have to lift the rear as well?

Any help would be appreciated. I would like to get some much larger tires than what came with the truck and without lifting her up if possible.

Thanks in advance.......

I know you can go with 285/70/17s with no rubbing while stock. Alot of guys run 315's or 35''s with a 2'' leveling kit only on the front. Some will rub a little bit on the control arms.

Good luck! Im hoping to buy a set of BFG Mud Terrain 35'' tires pretty soon. I am running a 2'' leveling kit only. Hope that helps.

With the leveling kit you can run 315s or 35x12.50 tires... 315s run a little small in BFG all terrain.

Some people run that size stock. With the proper wheel you can run it stock without rubbing because I did for a couple days before installing the lift.

If you want a unique tire get a 285/75/17 toyo M/T.

With a 2 inch leveling kit I think they sit a little low in the back but not much, you can get by that way unless you tow a lot.

Also, there is more to leveling a truck than throwing spacers on it, read up.

I run 315 BFGs with NO leveling kit. They are mounted on Hummer wheels which have a little more offset than stock. No rubbing in the last year or so.

What is the size of 315's you are running? You have no leveling kit or lift?
I saw a '07 3500 with 305-70-17's on the factory 17" chrome rims, and thought that would be pushing it!
I would like to get a bigger tire to fill up the wheel well too.

Thanks for the advise. I am making a couple calls this morning and will make a decision one way or the other. I am thinking that more than likely I will do the leveling kit. I found them on line at a very good price.

They are 315/70R-17 Hummer take offs. I do not have a leveling kit.

Although some seem to be running 35s or 315/70R17 w/o a lift, I bet this setup doesn't perform well offroad. I don't know your criteria.

I'm running 285/75R17 Toyo A/T and am happy on and offroad. I think the 305/70R17 might be worth looking at also as they are almost exactly the same height tire. Personally I didn't want the extra width as this might rub more when turning and affect fuel mileage.
