Low Boost ???????

I'm having problems with my boost pressure. My stock turbo finally came apart on me. I bought a D-Tech 62/12 turbo that they said would be the perfect one for me. After installing it my boost is running around 25 psi. I called and talked to them they said it probably needed to be adjusted. I adjusted it like they told me to and my boost is still the same. Then they told me something is wrong with my truck. Does this sound right and what could it be? The new turbo has a manual wastegate. They advised me to take my old electric one hook it back up and tie it up some place out of the way.

My turbo doesn't spool up nearly as fast as my stock one did either. My boost gauge looks more like a tach rather than boost. The higher the tach goes the higher the boost goes.

How are you monitoring your boost? Digital or analog?

Forgive me if I appear stupid. I believe analog. It's a manual gauge. I'm using Autometer NV guages for boost and pyro.

Yeah thats analog. I was thinking if you were running digital or some sort of electronic monitor, that would be the problem, because of the way Bullydog remaps the MAP sensor. You should be seeing more than that. Have you checked for boost leaks? Some 05s came with the plastic end caps on the intercooler, some sprung leaks and some blew off the caps. (back to aluminum for 06s) Dont mean to scare ya with that, Just covering the bases. I would think you should see 35-40psi with no problem.

I've checked all plastic ends and rubber boots or couplers. When the first turbo came apart I thought it was the intercooler. I've adjusted the wastegate to where I have about half an inch left.

Try putting a clamp on the wastegate hose. (A vice grip or something that can be clipped on and left there)

And then go do a test drive. Did the boost go up? Stay the same?

Did you get the electronic fooler that plugs into the old wastegate wiring on your truck? If not, take your old turbo and undo the electronic wastegate hardware, plug it back into your truck and zip tie it out of the way.

You can order a fooler for this part from a couple of places. I know Industrial Injection sells them.

Pull and clear your codes. My truck acted like this before, and it was due to a bad fooler that came with a turbo I purchased. It just would not make any boost. Maxed out at about 30psi but that was with a Smarty and EZ, not a Triple dog.

I used my old turbo hardware. I did have an engine light that came on and stayed on for awhile. But its off now. Would there still be a code in it then? on clamping off the wastegate I'll try it tomorrow.

I think you will still need to clear the code. It may auto clear the MIL but I think it stays as a hard code. I could be wrong, since when it happened to me I cleared it immediately.

I haven't had a chance to do anything yet. I'll let you know what happens. But right now I have bigger problems. I blew my clutch and tranny last night at the same time.

I've cleared the codes. I've plugged the waste gate hose on the turbo side. here's what I found: Bullydog turned to tow/economy or performance it will hit 25 psi; turned up to extreme it will hit 25 psi quickly, 30 struggling, 35 STRAINING!!!!!! With the wastegate unhooked Bullydog turned to extreme 30psi quickly; 35 struggling and 38 STRAINING. But everything was ok until I hit 6th gear; when it hit about 28psi it lost power and never got it back until I hooked the wastegate back up. When it lost power there wasn't any funny noise or anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

According to the supplier; they said that this is normal. They also said that the turbo is operating at 70% anything more it'll destroy the turbo. Does that sound right to you? They also said that where you get the HP gain is it is able to get the exhaust out faster. I understand that part. Right now I'm having issues with the fuel system. I'm draining the fuel rail. Right now I'm just babying it until I can afford a new lift pump.
