Looking for info on 06 5.9 oil bypass, coolant filter and coolant bypass info.

Thinking these will most likely be the next upgrades on my 06 since i just rebuilt the top end. Thinking this would help protect my investment?

Good morning, and welcome to the DTR!

An oil bypass is a great setup for extending the oil change intervals and really giving your engine the best oil quality possible, and the correlation between good oil an engine longevity is a no brainer. I have looked into them multiple times but have not pulled the trigger on one because my oil reports come back with great results and I don't put that many miles on my truck anymore. I've also recently discovered two stage oil filters that have a portion of the filter that is a higher micron, catching smaller particles. We'll see what the next oil sample says about it.

A coolant bypass is mainly used to bypass the thermostat to prevent over pressurization of the coolant in the head before the thermostat is fully opened, which is usually associated with running higher performance levels that causes excessive heat. From what I know, it's because the rear cylinders don't get as much airflow from the intake and they will run hotter, causing the coolant in the head to boil.

As far as coolant filters, I don't have much experience with them at all. I know the ford guys were using them on the 6.0s because of casting sand left over from engine production causing issues. TBH, I don't think I've ever seen anyone install them on these trucks, but I don't know everything.

Do you have performance modifications on your truck?

All that being said, they are good modifications for protecting your investment. I would just consider the cost to benefit ratio, because those mods aren't cheap!
