a little help for a local truck pull
a little help for a local truck pull
Hey guys,
like the title states there is a local truck pull and all the guys in my area have been breakin my chops about hookin up my big dually to the sled. Now this is just a little pull put on by some of the locals and my truck has a rep of being a bad EDIT truck. Now understand my truck has never been hooked to a sled and the guys around here have it up to about 1000 hp
You know how kids are and I just let them talk. So I have decided to take a crack at it... I know there is no way I'm going win but I just don't want to look stupid!!! So is there any advice you guys can give me? Heck I don't even know if I should use low range. I was thinking starting off in L1 once moving good shift to L2 and stand on it. Just keep the rs under 3500 right. How about stops for the suspension and will I need traction bars? Also should I fill my air bags to the max? I doubt they'll check hitch height. Oh yea should I run the torque setting at max on my Smarty?
Sorry about all the Qs !

4LO, OD OFF 2nd on shifter. Build Boost, get rolling, open it up, if you feel like you got the power shift into D but with OD OFF so you will be in 3rd. If you launch gradually you should not bounce and have a steady pull. Let off easy at the end so you dont bark that 62 bad. Have fun and pay attenion to the flag guys. When is the pull?
Thanks Cummins!!!
That's just what I was looking for!!! Should I install a lock up switch? I need to talk to Dave this week and see if that would be ok to do my trans. The pull is next weekend on the 11th.
How about some Smarty settings???
Thanks,

as for smarty settings, I would say go 2 levels below you see1450 degrees on a wot romp. this because the load is higher on the sled pull, and the duration of the pull is longer than most drag races, watch your egt's, cause its only fun if ya drive home after the event.
At 20 mph it doesn't take long to go 300'. Run it however it feels the strongest. It is all in the first 200'. Whoever gets it going faster in a street class usually wins. I would max out the bags and hold her to the floor in 4 lo. By the way, today is the 11th not next week.

By the way it's about 5 min south of exit 28 off the N.Y.Trueway if anyone is interested in attending. It's a great time. It's at the Yurkewecz farm on rt 30a south just out of Fultonville. There always a big bonfire/party after the pull. Campers are welcome.
If ya want any more info pm me and I'll pass along all the info ya need.

Use your airbags I put in 100psi
I don't know what gears your truck has but if you have 35's for a tire and 3.73 gears I think I would stay in 2nd low. Set the smarty on 7. Keep the throttle to the floor, and enjoy the ride!!
Take a video and show us the pull!!

Thanks Ramrodd,
I run the smarty on 7 most of the time and was thinking about running on 9 for a few days to see how the truck runs on the road at the higher level.
Anybody think hooking up a converter lock up switch is a good idea. I would think once she's in 2nd I should lock the converter. I will most definitely have a video!

I lockup would definatly transfer the power better, it cost me $5 in parts for mine, 3rd post down it what I followed http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3r...r-lock-up.html .
What I run for all out is SW7 TM 2 TQ 3 RP 1, i would leave shift defuel on, and have that Mp8 cranked.
EDIT: I did not add the jumpers under the hood, i have had no codes. You also need a 33ohm resistor between the switch and the grounding point so you dont have codes,

My truck locks the TC @ 28 mph if the shifter is in 2nd gear, but if you shift into 3rd it will unlock again. If you can spin the tires that fast then your probably OK, but if not then it won't lock up....
