From the lack of reported problems I guess there are no obvious issues with this tranny. Of course there are bound to be a few defects here and there (I had a bad transducer plug when I first took delivery). Maybe we should all just run the heck out of them and stop worrying, unless we bomb or pull 15,000 lbs out of Death Valley in August.

I pulled 13k from sea level to Mammoth/June Lake area through the Owens Valley all last summer. About 6k in towing with air temps of up to 110+. This is near Death Valley for much of the trip. I had no problems. I drove it pretty hard. I figure if it's going to break, I want to break it while DC is paying the bill.

Hey zzsdad,

What year/model do you have? How'd it do pulling the Sherwin Grade out of Bishop? My 02 PSD would pull my 10klb 5er at 60-65 in 3rd gear. I can't wait to try out my new CTD on that grade.

I just thought of another trans question . . .

Towing in OD? Here's how I did it with my Ford and it worked fine. Towed in OD unless the trans started hunting back and forth from OD to 3rd. Then I'd take it out of OD and just let it stay in 3rd. Not sure if it locked up in 3rd or not. It never had to stay that way very long.

Same rule of thumb for this trans? I only wonder because they call the the OD button the tow/haul button (what a crock ).

???

Is there a way to increase the line pressure or shift firmness/points in the 48RE without the expense associated with a new VB? I searched on DTT forums and found a pic which i believe applies to the 47, so not much help there. I guess i am just cheap but i do realize the increased life and potential fuel economy gains associated with higher line pressures (to a point of course). Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

What I've seen towing 10,000# TT in the Texas hill country is about the same as the other guys. When I'm running it will stay at 150 and not move. In stop and go traffic it will go to 170, but quickly goes back to 150 when I get going again. I'm towing with Edge on level 3, and AFE PG7. No exhaust mods. What was more surprising to me was the EGT temps. Running 65 mph with OD off the EGT's will stay around 800 (towing). When I let it go into OD the EGT's immediately go to 950. Has anyone else seen this? I guess the engine is being asked to do the same work, but with less RPM's when switching to OD.

Yes, there is a liquid cooler at the back of the engine and an air cooler in front.
