Just What Can I do before Voiding My Warranty

OK I love my new 06' 3500 Mega Cab 4x4, And I plan on buying a Quadzilla Commander to monitor things. But just how far can I go before I void the warranty.

Just by thinking of this, you have most likely voided your warranty

I would highly recommend stopping into your service department & getting to know the service manager. Get his thoughts on your question & maybe see what he would recommend you doing. If nothing else, it builds a relationship between the two of you & he will appreciate your courtesy of checking in with him first.

Yep, the DC big brother is listening and any thought or discussion of modifications will void engine and drive train warranty. You should still be able to get the door seals replaced and maybe the TSB for the Not In Park horn honking.

I thought the '06's already had that lovely feature installed. If not, make sure they put it on pronto, it is freakin' great, let me tell ya.

They will actually let you put fuel in it on your own, just make sure it isn't contaminated!!

No silly! Didn't you know that adding a BHAF will cause the door seals to tear?!?!?

And about putting in your own fuel, sure as heck dont wait for the dealer to do it! You've spent almost (or more) 40 grand on a vehicle, they dont have to top it off for you!

around here, just opening the hood on your own makes them want to void you.

Yea, sorry to say your thread took a turn for the giggles pretty quick.

Well in a more serious vane, it does really depend on the service department on what will slide without problems. Cat back exhaust or straight pipe is pretty safe, air intake probably ok. Gauges should be, but then again drilling into the exhaust manifold may cause questions. You really should just talk to your service manager and get his opinion.

But the bottom line is if you have major engine or drive train problems, DC Star will most likely get involved and then any mods could give them excuse to void warranty. Just my .02.

Just a note and I do not have first hand experience (yet)... I noticed in the notes on the jake brake that my 06 3500 came with (dealer installed and warrantied), there is apparently a bung already there for an EGT probe.

Unfortunately with many dealer's your better off to let your warranty expire then start B-O-M-B-ing. As mentioned before speak with your service department manager and find out what is allowed and get the approval in writing otherwise when time for warranty work it could end up a "They said - I said" incident in which case you will almost always lose. If your a good customer of your local dealer, they are going to try and keep you happy and may eat a good portion of the cost. Just remember that even a written document does not guarantee anything as ultimately DC will say yea or nay on major warranty work, i.e. blown engine. A dealer probably will not wish to eat the cost of materials and labor to the tune of several thousand dollars unless you are an exceptional customer.

There are laws that allow you to replace O-E-M parts with comparable quality aftermarket parts but adding anything other what the vehicle was "designed for" is not protected by law. For instance a factory tie rod end is replaced with a TRW tie rod end that meets or exceeds the design specifications and your power steering pump fails a week later the dealer cannot void your warranty because of the tie rod end replacement. However if you add an electronic performance enhancement box, good luck getting warranty work done on the engine. There are lots of gray areas between these two extremes.

Just because your local dealer says that is acceptable another dealer that you may require warranty work from if you're out of town on vacation may say so sorry.

Ah Hell that's all rite I can take some new guy smack .
This really suck's. I new it was going to be bad but not this bad. I'm really wanting a Quadzilla Commander for monitoring things at least, and if I have to go from Cat back for now on the exhaust, well thats what I gota do.
I just can't start dropping sh$t in this thing rite now and void the warranty on a $37K truck I waited 3 years for, well I guess I could, and I'm sure guys do, but I can't bring myself to do it "Yet".
I'll hang for awhile and see how long I can hold out. I havn't even got to the first oil change yet.

You don't even really need a cat back system on the 06 truck. All you really need is a performance muffler replacement. Oh and a cool 5" or 6" tip!

Like everyone else says, your particular dealer is the key as to what you can get away with or not.

Most of us make products than can be easily removed for service but, anytime you do anything you stand a chance of the dealer getting irritated. Even if the box leaves no fingerprints and you were to accidentally monkey a wire up or something they might throw a fit?

We have a lot of people that run our modules and remove them without any grief. On the other hand if they have any clue they might hang you?
