Question Just upgraded MMM to XZT+

I'm new to the diesel game, but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. I've only been running it for a day now, but I really like it. I was expecting it to only have more low to mid range power gains but this thing pulls like crazy through 3rd gear (I haven't stayed in it through 4th). I know I'll have to wait to hand calc this tank but my overhead is already showing higher than ever in stop and go.

This is the first mod I've done to the truck and have one question. When I do get on it, even for a short burst, my temp jumps right up to 200 but never higher. As soon as I'm out of the pedal it drops right back down. Normal? I just didn't expect it to jump so quickly.

It's my first diesel, and mod so please laugh with me not at me.

Thanks,
Brian

You should invest in a set of gauges...

Now!

If you're seeing an increase in coolant temp, imagine what your pistons are seeing. I'm sure with 65hp you're not going to grenade anything, but you should, at the very least, have an EGT gauge.

I just upgraded also. EGT's get pretty high when you get on it. I'd highly recommend some gauges.

I got the XZT+ to add a little more power for a camper I'll soon be getting. Also, people are still getting better than stock MPG with these that's why I upgraded without getting guages yet because I'll be daily driving for a little while. I fully agree with the need for guages, and will have some prior to towing or really "using the pedal". Do you guys think that my temp increase is normal though?

Yes the slight temp increase happens on every truck i have been in. But if you are holding it down through third gear, the EGTS are getting on up there. Not thermal meltdown level, but hot. i would bet 1400 or a little over if you truck is all stock other than the XZT.

thanks Kyle,

I never looked at my temp so much before the upgrade, so while I was testing it out the increase jumped out like a sore thumb.......

Your not going to get any fuel mileage improvements if you keep pushing down hard on the peddle on the right.

I have found that on any level besides the Max Mileage, that the overhead gets more inaccurate with each higher level. With the MMM, mine was as close to hand calc. as it has ever been. It gets further and further away from the truth, the higher you go on the levels!

what is 'pretty high'?

i'd rather pull the box than tap a pyro thermocouple at the moment...

Let's just call the first tank "experimental"

Hi Stroop,

I feel a big difference when towing my 13K 5er down low. Trying to turn onto a Highway service road or just pulling away from a stop sign. Now I do not get much tire spin even without towing but I believe this is because of the torque management our trucks come with.

I just sent my XZT in to be upgraded and am looking forward to the different options. Do you have any tips on programing the new series?

I have a pyro post-turbo. With stock fueling, going briskly from 0-60 would put the temps in the 700 range (equivalent to around 1100 pre-turbo).

With the XZT box, I saw temps in the 900's (or around 1300 pre-turbo) - QUICK. It just shot right up there.

I also saw that I wasn't making much boost - like 27 psi max. This has a lot to do it with it I'm sure. I do have the boost fooling program loaded, but maybe I'd better load it again to make sure.

shortbed,
I had the MMM and upgraded to the XZT+ so I have to program either the MM or the + upgrade. I can't go back and forth on the fly like people who have the X2 so they'll have to chime in. Downloading and running my update was as simple as could be.

DONT TRY TO USE VISTA !! I had to break out my old computer and load the programs on it to get it to recognize my module.

Greg mine seems to be doing well so far in the mileage catagory, but if what vzdude mentioned above is true my excitement will be short lived. I'm going out of town this weekend and should have a mileage report when I get back.

Guages are a must with any fueling box. I highly recommend the commander with all info at a push of a button and the min/max feature makes it a must have.

I have seen as high as 1450 on my pyro pre turbo and boost as high as 40 PSI but what concerns me is my fuel pressure will drop to 2-3 PSI under hard acceleration, I think my LP is weak from the factory.

Truck runs much smoother and has better throttle response but the timing rattle is a little annoying so I usually leave it on 25hp setting for normal driving and only use the 45-65 hp settings for towing.

I better intake or a free flowing exhaust will help in the EGT area but keep an eye on the fuel numbers.
