The canister mounted lift pump is the biggest weak link in the truck.

Do some research here and find what suits you best for a replacement. Expect it to go around 100k at the latest. Sooner if you add the smarty (best mod you can do IMO)

My stock muffler was terribly choked - I could hear it hissing when I towed. I cured that with a 4" muffler and lowered the egt a little. The transfer pump was one of the first things I replaced - with a Walbro kit. I put a 2 micron fuel filter between the oem filter and the injector pump. I considered those things to be must-does. The rest was for more fun. Craig

Wow all of this info is awesome thank you guys. I dont even know where to start. Im thinking of doing all the filters first since that seems to rank high in importance.

Mine needed a thermostat at ~ 60k. Cummins has the t-stat and gasket in a kit - $28. The 03+ Rams have a problem with breaking AC damper linkages so if the defrost, dash or floor air won't come out where it's supposed to, that the problem. Do a search on "heater treater door" for the fix. They went from vacuum to electric actuators in 03 and they obviously didn't know how to do it right. I'd flush and refill the cooling system with hoat unless you know it's been done recently - Cummins ES Complete blue or equal. I'm a fanatic about maintenance - I bleed the brakes, suck out the clutch reservoir and put in new, change lubes in the boxes and PS pump and everything else I can think of, probably oftener than it need.
