Interesting note about Smarty and "undetecability"
This is driving me nuts...
Marco NEVER has stated that the SMARTY would NOT void your warrenty...
You, I, and Marco all know that the Smarty has the ability to void a warranty if it is used incorrectly or without the proper supporting mods...heck he suggests what certain levels even exceed the capability of the stock tranny.
All of the warranty discussion is pointless...
Marco and the rest of the Smarty gang have simply stated over and over that the Smarty is undetectible...that's it. Use that info as you wish...warranty foolers or not. He has never made any other claim.
Build it fast...built it strong...maintain it and pray for a little luck, and you can have a bombproof truck for life.

Sooner or later some jacka$$ on here will take it to his "friendly" dealer....
"hey dealer...I have this programmer on my truck, see if you can see it??"
Then the can o worms will spill and they will start looking for it. Guys, let the sleeping dog lie. Marco has created a great device for those of us willing to mod our trucks. In modding YOU accept the fact that YOU are willing to intentionally harm your truck. Marco has designed a 99% invisible programmer, and it gets better every day.

I completely disagree...
I don't think I should loose the warranty for my alternator, water pump, heater grids, AC compressor, etc etc etc...for something totally non related...and that happens all the time. IF a failure of something may be caused by something I have done...I am man enough to step up and admit it.
Otherwise...I don't feel the need to prematurely predudiced against.
Like I could hide an Aurora 5000, complete ATS Trans, TST, MP-8, injects, air and exhaust mods, lift, tires, gauges, stereo, bumpers...etc anyways. LOL
I don't need a big brother looking over my shoulder.

Marco,
If a guy has problem with his truck, reloads the stock software into the ECM from the SMARTY and goes in to the dealership.
The dealership then Scans the ECM with the Star Scan tool and finds the code P0602. They have yet to update the ECM but are doing diagnostics. The code now has a freeze frame of recent data.
Would this not raise questions about the code and how it appeared?
"Smarty is not detectable thus it's not possible for a dealer to void the warranty because of the obvious signs all other downloaders leave in the ECM. Smarty leaves no traces of itself. Period"
In this statement alone although you are not bluntly stating that your downloader is not warrenty voiding. you do elude to it. This is the type of marketing that gets people into warrenty issues. I am sorry if I am pointing out only your product here, the others have more blunt statments then yours.
I would like to have a trial on the SMARTY for a few ressons, one I would like to try it out before I buy one.
Two, people ask me what the heck a SMARTY is, I try to explain it but it isnt the EDGE Banks or BD so very few have heard of it.
3, I would like to have a independant test run on the traceabiltiy of this product. My offer was denied by BD, Edge, Super Chips and Hyper Tech.
Simple test, have it installed, then go into dealership have them investigate for a trace of the mod.
Then return the engine to stock and go back and have them investigate for trace of mod.
Then reload mod, create a fault, IE unplugg injector harness, or what not, go back have them fault diagnose
Then carry out the same procedure but with the mod turned off.
Next level but would have to be done with permission with DC/ Cummins would be to connect with Engineering on line with live diagnostics for the next series of tests. Carrying out the same as above.
The next level would be to send the ECM in for diagnosing to DC.
I have been told already that DC engineering has already diagnosed most of the tuners, programmers. This is from a Engineer who works for DC, He said test results could not be relased but they are there.
They tell dealerships to look for the tell sale signs of the velcro strips, removed wires gauges, etc for the first level of investigation.
Marco It sounds like you have one heck of a power ad on, It seems to offer more then the rest of the after market products and is safer to run. Hopefully the 1 in three trucks can be solved or at least mitigated.
Cheers

This is exactley what I am talking about...and why VERY FEW prducts are represented on these forums by the manufacturer. This c@#p is probably going to run him off...then what do we gain? He is being as honest as he can...revealing as much as he can, so that YOU can make your own decision what to do.
Back OFF! Let the "true" topic of this thread be discussed...and not sidelined by anything about a warranty. It is simply about whether or not ANYONE can ever tell if the Smarty has been loaded/unloaded on our trucks.
Thats it...and nothing more.... ARRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I am done with this...and embarrassed of a few DTR members. I think email and PM's will be my only form of communication for a while.

Here are a few Smarty threads where the P0602 was mentioned:
1. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
In this first one, Marco mentions that the P0602 was normal when loading certain programs and was working on a fix.
2. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
3. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
This one is also interesting because the guy says he checked codes after removing the smarty and the P0602 was there.
4. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
5. Here is a confirmed P0602 sighting after using the Bully Dog programmer, one of many you will find if you do a search:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
6. Here is a confirmed P0602 sighting after using the Predator programmer:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=P0602
I couldn't find a thread that mentioned the Superchips and P0602, but I have seen that programmer do it too....just no threads to link to for a visual.
This would seem to imply that it's a fairly common occurrence when using any programmer. Just be careful when going in for warranty work if you choose this route.

I have yet to have a code, and I change my programming 2 times a day for the last 5 days. I go from 3 to 5 to 7 daily just to get a feel for it. I agree, this is the best thread to run Marco off. I do not want that!!!!!!!! I think Marco has a well designed programmer and is doing his best to help our community.

Nobody is trashing on the product. My whole point of starting it was really to point out to someone that there maybe a way to see a code was set even after being cleared.
If somebody would just tell me how to clear a freeze frame data I could really care less if Smarty or any other sets that code.
I'm not looking for DC to warranty my truck if I smoke it. I am however trying to retain basic warranty function as somebody else stated before.. That being alternator as well as many other things that wouldn't be fixed if they knew there was a programmer.
If this thread were to run marco off he is in the wrong business. There are always going to be trucks that pose problems and people demanding answers, especially from the developer of said product.

I concurr, I'm personally against people bombing their truck and then stripping the truck and lying or at least misleading to get free warranty service...not how I was brought up.
I also trust that Marco has completely done his homework and his product will not leave improper data in the ECM.
Yeah I bet not one person in the warranty department of Daimler Chrysler knows about Smarty......Shhhhhhh.
I've cleared codes at my dealer with the Smarty with the tech in the passenger seat....I wouldn't lend it to them but I imagine most people hired by Dodge can read and use the internet.
KS.

I don't have a Smarty, but sounds like an awsome product. I also think it is great that Marco is on here, spending time answering questions. I have 2 questions, [1] Is the smarty adjustable on the fly, like my quad race [2] Can you run a Smarty with quad box, and would the Commander still be able to adjust it on the fly, in case the Smarty is not adj on fly? Thanks to anyone who will or can answer. We have a great Forum here! Lots of interesting reading.
