Intake manifolds which is best?
Intake manifolds which is best?
I am having my turbo put back in and purchased an ATS exhaust manifold to go with it. Now I am thinking about the intake manifold as well. I have seen the new AFE version and I like it but it is brand new and unproven. The ATS unit has been out fro a year now and people seem to like them but they don't seem to be providing much if any additional HP. Should I spring for a new intake or not? which one? Thanks. Tom J.
Had I not already bought my ATS I would have bought this one and may still. I bought an IC from him and it is awesome along with very high quality.

The AFE is not unproven
It has been on many trucks that I know of and has been used on stock and moded trucks. It is also the only one that has had before and after dynos done and published, along with flow #s.I can tell you it has seen over 50 psi boost that I have seen and by now I am sure others have seen more.

As was said earlier, I would buy the Hellmann air horn if you're going to buy one.. The price is much better than the competitors, and you have the option of having it in plain aluminum, polished, chromed, or powdercoated. I went with podercoated and really like it..

Bob,
Could you give some info on what that graph is ....I have no green lines, and the blue has no description...Was the dyno done in 2nd gr (gear)....
25hp and 40 tq is great but you'd have a hard time selling that concept to me with the intake horn. I ran 70psi+ through my stock one and I've done the numbers before and the intercooler pipe is smaller than the restriction in the intake horn....The output of the smaller turbo in a set of twins is usually way smaller than the 3inch intercooler pipes. Buy a water/meth setup and get some good cooling and real everyday performance in my opinion....I like the look of the AFE and ATS intake horns though....nice bling bling parts. Kerry

I bought the Banks high ram and replaced it w/ the AFE bladerunner. I liked the Banks and could see a noticable difference in both temp boost speed. That being said, the AFE was noticably better than the Banks, about 50-100 degrees cooler at highway speeds and boosts higher and faster as well. I can get 43 psi w/ my stock turbo w/ mp-8 @ 100% w/ the AFE.
The Flow is VERY close +or-1 cfm.I see the advantage being a proven durable material that comes with holes pretapped and more bosses ready to be drilled.I see factory Plastic manifolds fail overtime on a regular bassis.
And the design and color scheme match my truck

There was a very noticable diff when towing,I have no issues on grades at 1500 rpm.Plenty of power and low egts.I would not choose that rpm but stuck in traffic at 55mph with 37"tires will put you there for a good test.
The diameter is not the issue but the bends that the air must make.
For peak numbers the intakes loose their advantage, but at the rpm we drive everyday on the street there is a diff.
Just like on gassers diff manifolds for diff rpm.
I am very happy with my broad torque band, made even better with the manifold.

Should be blue and red .Red hp and blue torque. There was no additional fueling on that graph. The before test had cat back and stg2 air kit.
The after was adding just the manifold on top of that.
We also did just manifold on an 06,no exhaust and no air kit.It looked like this

Less gains with out the other air enhancements. It still holds true.........it's all about the pkg.
