Injectors on the way out,,,,,but wait!
Injectors on the way out,,,,,but wait!
Howdy all,
I have been having a problem for a couple of months on startup. The truck in my signature will start fine for several days, then all of a sudden she stumbles on startup (500 rpm then returns to normal after a few seconds). I thought surely I was having injector issues.
A couple of weeks ago I unplugged the Quadzilla Xzillaraider (DXZT2) just for grins to see if this would make a difference. Well, it did! Not once has the truck stumbbled on start up. So I have been running around with the Quad not installed,,,,and I am missing the extra power and MGP. I have had the quad on the truck for at least 5 years and it has saved me around $800 in fuel (at $4.00/gal) - I have kept hand-calculated records since the truck was new. The quad has been great and hasn't failed once, but it looks like instead of making a trip to get new injector/'s, I will will be in the market for a Smaty Jr. Based on everones feedback on the Smarty, it looks like this is the way to go, unless someone has another suggestion.
My truck only has 60k miles and hasn't had any problems other then a hole in the a/c condensor from the factory. Needless to say it has been a really good truck and still looks & drives like new. It's my daily driver and I don't use it as my primary tow vehicle, but from time to time I will pull gooseneck cattle trailers, hay vans and a 32' dual tandem dovetail. I kept my 2003 f350 lariat (7.3 liter) when I bought the dodge and it sure comes in handly having the second truck; even if it isn't a dodge!
The only other mod that I see making in the next couple of months is a Goerend torque convertor and valve body. Your suggestions on a programmer would be appreciated.

I'm just going to throw this out to you because if you like the Quad, I'd suggest checking/replacing the wiring harness and connections. I'm betting that's where you'll find the mysterious stumble is coming from.
Noticed something else this morning - my volts are running +/- 14.4. I know the guage is just an indicator, but it has been showing low for the last couple of months (12-13'ish). The truck started and idled great once again this morning,,,,but I didn't remember what it felt like to drive a truck without a power enhancing module. Needless to say that problem will be fixed in short order!
Thanks to anyone who may have a recomendation.

Mine did the same with the quad. Little indicator lights on the pod would go out come on truck would run a little wierd long story sort replaced wiring harness evrything is good. Had mine on about 4 years.
I decided to order a Smarty Jr. and did so yesterday. I am really looking forward to something new. I may see if I can get a replacement harness for the Quad,,,,,especially since it was great until the problems developed.
I talked one of my buddies into ordering a Smarty for his '10 CTD. He wants to modify his truck, but is really hesitant to do so due to potential warranty issues. His dealership has went as far as to tell him that if he lifts his truck they will void his warranty. I really can't figure this out since this particular dealership sells new trucks with 4-6" suspension lifts (I assume they install the lift kits in their shop at the dealership).
Anyways, we will see how the Smarty works.

OK - installed the Smarty Jr. this afternoon and headed out to the ranch. When I downloaded the smarty I chose the "tow" option but did not reset any of the other peramiters other than cleared a couple of codes P0111 & P0191. These two codes have been comming in about once a month for a while but go away after a couple of days.
The truck started and idled really smooth which had been a problem in the past. The power was really smooth. I have been doing some reading and have seen lots of the members discussing TM, TQ and another setting for the Smarty Jr. I am assuming that I have the latest software since it just arrived yesterday. Any recomendations on which setting to start with?
