Idea for low oil pressure warning

I've got a "real" oil pressure guage installed. I'm going to be installing an Oilguard system. Currently the pressure sender is tapped off of the fitting on top of the oil filter mount. What I plan on doing is using a double tee fitting (2 tee fittings in-line). One tap for the Oilguard bypass, the next for the pressure warning lite sender(15psi should be good) and the next for the oil press guage. This way I can monitor my true oil pressure, and if something should happen to a line or the oilguard canister, I would know immediately with the guage and warning lite. What do you "engineering" type guys think?
Sound good???

how much oil flow will go through the bypass filter? you might have a good enough flow through the piping and filter to show a lower than actual pressure [remember, pressure = resistance to flow]..

with a little extra remote plumbing, you can access one of the 2 M10x1.0 o-ring seal ports on the left side of the engine block [tapped into the same gallery as the oem low pressure switch/factory BS gauge sending unit]

Well, I'm thinking that this would give me some type of safeguard protection with the external lines and pressurized canister for the bypass system. Do you think it'll really drop the pressure reading that much??? I've got to read up on how much this bypass flows.... I seem to remember a quart per minute... not that much in my mind anyway ...

I have exactly what you are talking about but the pressure switch is a 10psi switch. My bypass set up is a Harvard filtration system with a 60thou orfice.

Jim, can you describe your setup a little more? Never heard of Harvard...

My Harvard system is something that I have had on the last three vehicles. A chev 454 suburban, a class C ford Motorhome with the 6.9 and a Banks turbo. and now my Dodge Cummins. it is a bypass system similar to the Amsoil set up. Their web address is www.harvardcorp.com
most of their busness is with large hydraulic systems and heavy industrial. I think that my set up with a L61 spin on element is the smallest that they sell. the spin on element has a 5/8" fine thread and it holds 1 US quart I used to use a L71 that held 1.5 US quarts but it is not available anymore. They claim that it will filter to 1 micron. Their address is Evansville Wisconsin.

Even with less than true pressue due to the flow, it shouldn't be a big problem. Your oil pressure gauge might read a little bit lower but so what; it's the big swings (like down to zero if you lost your oil) and the differences over time that really matter. And the sender for the dash gauge and warning chime will work fine like that, though I'm not sure you need 15 psi (the stocker is 6psi).

Installed the Oilguard unit this morning. No oil pressure change so far. I'll be taking a 120 mile trip later today. I'll post back later tonite, hopefully with cleaner oil....

Thanks again to all.

Prior to Oilguard, at 65mph I had 65psi oil pressure (easy to remember). Now it's at 62-63psi. No problems. At warmed up idle, still sits at 25psi like a rock, never dipping below. Good to go....
