Smile How much more going from a 62 to a 66???

Like the title says...How much more HP could I possibly gain by going from my current SPS62 to possibly a Silver 64 or Silver Bullet 66??? Without changing anything else.....

tuff to say. Going to the 66 u would need studs for sure but it should make more power.

U still want to do the swaping??

Just trying to get a feeling if the 66 is more suited for me or not. I dont plan on doing studs just yet, I would just set the WG around 47psi like I have now with my SPS62.

How much more?

I went the other way, from a 66 to a 62. Without too much tuning, overall loss was around 50.

What did I gain? Less smoke, way better spooling, and cooler EGT's. The 62 got ahead of the EGT's while the 66 didn't. Might have had something to do with the truck being a manual though.

Based on how much my '07 smokes with the Smarty, I think I personally would not run a 66. Not here in the SF Bay Area anyway, with all the tree-huggers and their Priuses waiting to call in polluters...

I ran a 66 on my 05 and it cooled down alot faster than the stock turbo did. if you wait until the truck gets warm and run it hard you dont need head studs. the are good insurance but a 66 isnt ungodly big. if you have the fuel it will be a good upgrade I think. it will have some lag compared to what you have, but guys have made lots of power on the silver bullets they will put it down

I went from the SPS62 to the Silver62.

That bumped me up hp and tq on the dyno (about 20 hp / 50 tq), but lag is more noticable as is the smoke until it lights and cleans up. Towing my 5vr is not near as easy, egt's get high at light throttle because boost is considerably lower.

The Silver is more violent when it hits, but overall the SPS was a better all around turbo IMO, I can only imagine the negatives I have experienced with Silver62, would be that much more amplified with a 64 or a 66.

The comparisons I made between the two, I still had stock injectors, the F1's have helped the Silver spool sooner.

At the same givin psi the 66 will be less likely to blow a HG so dont worry about that if you are gona run 50 psi or less.

If your overfueled currently Then there is more power to be had. The 66 is laggier but not bad at all. The punch when boost comes on will be stronger mBut I will agree as far as egts are concerned Lower boost will come in slower causing egts to get higher but certainly manageable

Les,
I've thought about going bigger now that I have the bigger sticks. Let me know if you want to try out the bullet.

keep in mind , wheel size on the compresser side is less than half the battle.....
you also have to take into account exhaust wheel sixe, housing a/r etc.....
a 66/65-16 would be a laggy pig with high drive presure
the other extreme a 66/74-12 would probably spool quick enough for most guys, but the small exhaust side wouldnt flow quite as well.
also keep in mind trim on the wheels etc also makes a big diferance.

most guys that ride in my truck would not belive it has a 66 in it with as quick as it spools.

btw - @575 allready, id realy look into studs..... have you ever checked your drive presure with your current turbo?

Dude you are awesome!

Lets stud that sucker first,please!

I would be concerned about hauling your snowmobiles to Tahoe with any more charger. I dont know what that trailer/gear weighs, but it might suck pretty bad.

BTW- yes I am the guy you stopped after my dyno pull.

Personally I would stick with your current combo. Your already have a great running 575whp daily driver. How much more power do you want? I think going to a 66 will open a can of worms on your truck and before you know it you lost your sweet tow rig.

My SB surges even when towing my little quad trailer to Sand Mountain. Its goes away if I drop it down to 5th but its still annoying if I need to get into the throttle.

But if you want 650whp+ then go for it.
