How many are using a pre-filter?
How many are using a pre-filter? OK, I know that is NOT a pre-filter, it's a Baldwin 3/8" inline strainer (BF1173). Also, I know my Carter is a piece of $%^%$, but with 18psi and 77,000 miles, I'm not sure about that.
I was advised, some time back that using a inline strainer in the winter would wax-up in the colder winter weather and stop my truck from starting so I removed it. Know I'm thinking the person that gave this advise was talking about on his tractor (farm equipment) and maybe he was using farm fuel and does it come with anti-gel in it like #2 diesel at the pump?
Who if any are using a pre filter?

I have removed the inline strainer from every farm tractor I have owned. That is the first place it will jell, I learned the hard way.
I run #2 with conditioner all winter in my tractors.
Maybe you will get by with it but if you do have trouble look their first, and carry a piece of hose and the tools to remove it on the side of the road.

I don't have a strainer, but use a GDP 2-micron filter (big line kit) after the stock fuel filter and heater. The fuel should be warmed up by the time it passes through the stock and 2micron filters on its way to the cp3. I haven't had a problem yet, but I don't have a fuel pressure gauge yet, so can't verify any loss in pressure though.

To the OP. Why don't you swap the location of the pump and the Baldwin (looks like a 1212). The 1212 is actually designed as a vacuum filter so no issues there. Then your getting clean dry fuel to the pump.

Your correct, that is a Baldwin 1212. I wish someone would have giving me this advise before I drilled holes in the frame and mounted everything. Maybe I should run a longer rubber tube to the Baldwin 1212, then make a loop back to the pump, then up, that wouldn't look very good.

When I add an aux LP I plan to plumb it after the 1212, even if its mounted before the 1212 on the frame.
I think i would leave the 1212 as is, and flip the carter.. Then you go from the tank to the 1212 (in the back), out the front of the 1212 to the Carter (flip the carter so you come in the front), the out the back of the carter to the engine.
[QUOTE=ah64id;2285141]Exactly, so just leave them where they are and replumb them. Then you also have enough hose on the truck to bypass the LP if it fails.. The CP3 is a vacuum pump, so you will be able to bypass the LP and still run.
Thanks for the advise, I'm going to leave them mounted as is and re-plumb. From the tank to the back of 1212, out the front of 1212 I'll make a big "S" with the rubber tube to the back of the Carter, Then out the front of the Carter and up.
Back to my first question; Is anyone using a pre-filter? Do they get any waxing in the winter?
