Looks like I'll be doing this myself and it doesn't look like it will be too bad. Is there anything I need to look out for or be prepared for?

Make sure you prime the turbo just to make sure it has oil in it

If you can't do it in less than an hour, just give up.

Oh wait, I've done it a dozen times, so

Make sure you get it "clocked" correctly, and run some oil into it before you start it, and all will be fine. Not a hard job, but some of the bolts on the newer trucks are harder to get to than on mine.

I could tell you all the tools you'd need if you had a 2nd Gen

Good Luck,
Chris

Good luck getting the inside nuts off. You'll more than likely have to pull the manifold to get it off.

Is there a gasket on the manifold or is it just metal to metal machined surfaces?

There are gaskets between the manifold, you dont have to pull the manifold, its more of a pita.
If its a II 66 OR 62 there easy to change - the Bd super B is a pain.
I only used box end cheap wrenches the thinner the better for getting at the rear nuts 1.5 to 3 hrs you should be done.

It is a BD Super B turbo....

Thanks for the input everyone. I just hate to start something without some idea of what I'm getting into. It can't be any worse than a 2 day install of headers in my old LT1 Trans Am or the 8 hour spark plug change.....

If I did pull the manifold off, is the gasket reuseable or will I need a new one? Also, I have little girl hands so Is it possible to get to those bolts at all that Banshee mentioned?

I did mine from underneath with a socket, universal, 2+ ft. of extensions and a cheater pipe on the ratchet. It is kind of scary getting 1/8-14 turn on the ratchet with out the nut turning and then all of the sudden BANG, ratchet/extensions/sockets go flying! after that they weren't even finger tight

When are you planning on doing it, and where are you at? Send me a pm.

JB Weld supposedly fixes engine blocks. I'll bet it can hold a turbo on as well.
