holy metal shavings batman
i installed my new guages this evening
the boost gauge went very smoothly thanks to Genos boost bolt
tapping the manifold for the pyrometer on the other hand
i read several posts on this board and have seen some installed on my buddie's trucks. i decided to drop the housing and place a piece of carboard over the hole, i smeared the carboard with heavy grease to catch anything that would fall inside the manifold
as i started to drill the pilot hole i noticed that the housing seemed to have a magnetic charge (has anyone else noticed this?) it was grabbing the particles as they fell and pulling them into the manifold, very wierd
i set my own magnet in the fall path of the shavings and was able to collect them that way.
i drilled and tapped the manifold just fine, i used heavy grease on the drill and tap to collect as many shavings as possible as the were made
i was not prepared for all the shavings that were stuck in the grease on my cardboard
i know some were scraped off into the manifold as i removed it, i sucked out the hole and the gasket with a heavy duty shop vac.
some of the posts here say to run the truck and allow the shavings to just blow thourgh the exhaust before firing the turbo. that is what i did and everything seems to be fine but man that made me uneasy
what do you guys think? should it be ok or am i screwed?

You're gonna find the xzt barely raises your egts. And as a matter of fact it drops them way quicker before shutdown. Don't know much about superchips but if its heavy on duration, you're gonna see high egt's. And like the others say, you are golden as far as drilling your sender. That manifold is darn thick, isn't it...
