Hiding things from dealer
What about the stories I hear from the guys at work, in the early 1970's some Dodge Dealers would hop up new cars before they were sold. I hear about new cams and intakes installed on cars.

did they have warranties back then? i bought my 05 from a dealer who installed an edge ez on it....but i dont feel like driving to northeast oklahoma to do warranty work on it
This is what I'm gonna do. I have 7200 miles on my truck right now...And have now had 5500+/- of them with the K&N on it. I am going to get some white duct tape, some alcohol to clean ANY little debris/oil/dust/micro particles off of a small square section of the intake tubing on my K&N, I am going to stick a 2"x2" square of the white tape on any one side of the intake tube just a bit passed the filter and I am going to monitor it for the next 7700miles and when I do my 15000 mile maintenance. I will take before and after pics for ya'll. If there is any of this mysterious debris/dust/oil/micro particles that I have been hearing about from a few of ya'll, surely the white tape would show any evidence better than the black tube would right? I just can't deal with this whole "K&N and K&N only will void your warranty" or "K&N doesn't filter good enough and it will kill your turbo" propaganda anymore. I've seen FAR too many folks run K&N over the past 10 years with nothing but good things to say about their results with the product, a VERY reputable company by the way, whom I am SURE would NOT be selling their products to folks if there were hints of their product voiding the warranty of the vehicle it is being put on or even worse KILLING it...surely there would be lawsuits by now, correct? I've read the small print on my K&N kits and NOWHERE does it say "This product may likely, can possibly or WILL void the warranty on your vehicle or leave you walking because it doesn't filter good enough (even though we claim on our website and all advertisements to filter BETTER and flow BETTER than stock). Please continue to put it on. Thanks for purchasing your K&N" When LEGALLY, they would HAVE to inform you of such information... I'll keep ya'll posted....

I am not saying that the K&N is a bad filter.. More than likely it is the person who installed it is not maintaining it.. To much oil/not enough oil.. If you put it in and forget about it then it is going to cause problems.. Like you said.. if they are really that bad then they would not be able to sell them. But if you don't maintain any oiled air filter then you are going to have problems..
unfortunately dealers and manufactures document this stuff to build their cases for not warrantying stuff.. if it is their air box that is dusting the turbo then it is on them.. but if there is another air filter on and dust then it is on the consumer.. and K&N is the most popular air filter system so who do you think takes the blame..

Dealers still do that all time. As long as it's MOPAR performance parts being installed.
