Here Comes Winter!

With winter weather slowly creeping in (dropped to 40F Monday) here & the chain-laws are now in effect in the Rocky Mountains. I am hoping I made my truck a snow worthy machine.

Are BFG All_Terrain K/O's good snow tires?

I know they have the SNOWFLAKE rating on the side, which in some states allows the driver NOT to have chains installed, when combined with 4WD.

I hope the following will all combine to make the truck a snow machine:

8,000LBS of truck
4WD
GDP Ladder Bars (they sure help keep the axle planted and prevent wheel-hop)
BF Goodrich All Terrain K/Os

Will that combo work????

My house is near Wolf Creek Pass in CO which is said to be the most snow in colorado and the stock 265 BFG Rugged Trails did just fine in the snow. i would think that the BFG AT would do a lot better.

I've got them on mine. I love them for winter traction.

Do you think the GDP Ladder Bars will help with snow traction?

Yeah, Colorado law requires semi-trucks to have chains ready-to-install on their trucks if they drive I-70 from September - May. I-70 was closed so many times due to accidents and snow, that if the time closed was continuous it would equate to 24 hours per day, 6 days in a row.

Funny (actually quite dangerous) how people will try and navigate mountainous roads in the winter with a two-wheel drive car with "all-season" tires.

I believe Colorado should go the route of other mountain states. If snow is forcasted, then mandatory 4WD, AWD or 2WD with snow tires or chains should be mandatory if going into the mountains.

Well I hate to poop on the party. But however I will.I had BFG TA/KOs on my 03 Hemi 1500 and they were not worth a crap.Lugs are too close together to clean themselves, that and the lugs are just close enough that when you go on a gravel road and then take it back up to asphalt and gain speed the rocks will fly out of your tires and beat the crap out of your truck and not to mention they will throw rocks at oncoming traffic. Lot of my offroad buddies had them on some of the milder built 4x4s and when we went to mud they would gum up so bad that it was like racing slicks.

I used to belong to 5 rockcrawler clubs at the same time,so I've had plenty experience with them.

AT's work good for me, and we get more than our fair share of snow in Alaska.
I hope the weather holds out a bit longer, I have to drive the ALCAN in 2 weeks!
