Look out, here it comes

It figures. Our phony governor here in the Peoples Republic of Washington just signed a new bill into law today. Yup, starting in 2009, all vehicles sold in the Peoples Repbulic of Washington have to meet the California emission standards.

The price of cars are going up and even though we now have something like the 2nd highest fuel prices in the nation, they will be going up too.

Time to retire and get the heck out of this Socialist Republic.

Maybe move to Hayden Lake, ID?

Man, the more I see about WA, the less I think I might want to move back there.

Let's see... voters turned down public funding of Safeco. Then, county executive Locke said well, the 49% who voted for it must really want it, so he approved public funding of the stadium.

I guess the same thing happened with the Seahawks new stadium.

Just heard that the state workers had a union vote. 30% voted in favor of it. I guess I should say 30% of union members... non-members were supposed to be given the chance to vote, but of course, the union reps didn't really want that and somehow got it written into the deal that management couldn't put the word out abut the vote, the contract details or anything. So... 30% voted in favor of the closed shop system and now the 70% "minority" state employees have to cough up part of their pay. Because in WA, less than 50% is a majority....

Even my wife, who's from Seattle, is thinking New Hampshire (Live free or die!) is looking good.

I don't think I'd get too bent out of shape about it. Many (most?) vehicles these days are being set up as '50-state legal' and the number that have special modifications or differences to meet California emissions regs are getting fewer and fewer... not sure how many will even be left by 2009. The new law may not have as much real-world effect as you seem to expect.

Yup, WA had a lot going for it. but not lately. Think the fuel tax is higest in the nation. After living there for 43 years, retired, and moving to full time 5th wheel. WA is looking to slap a large tax on RV's also.

Rhode Island 2nd state to adopt the California Emmisions act Oh well. It stinks but when you think about it, it's in the best interest for the environment. You should see what kind of emmisions we have on our generators at work (big 16 cylinder cats, 4 turbos, something like 2400 horse power, they put out less emmisions than our trucks. The scrubbers on them something like quarter million. the emissions equipment on the engine is **** near more expensive than the motor, go figure.
