Head Stud Options

I am going to be upgrading to a compound turbo setup soon and was wondering if i could get some suggetions as to which brand of Studs i should buy. I know of APR but heard that they were only good for one head job and if you ever remove them you would need to replace them. Any other links or brands you know of would be appreciated.

I've done many retorques on ARP studs without issues. I never had issues, although some guys do say they shouldn't be retorqued. There are other options like A1, but very pricey.

I use ARP fastners on my race car. After doing a lot of research, I wouldn't use anything else.

If you read the instructions for all fastners, they say single use only. But I don't know of anybody that tosses them after one use.

I would never buy them used.

I dont think thats something that you'd want to buy used for the truck. Granted Im all about saving money and buying used stuff for the truck but thats something i wouldnt. I think arp studs are only $480 these days. id pay that any day for the piece of mind that im not sittin on the side of the road.imop

I got a set of arp 425s for free. Been torqued 4 times already. Guess what i got lucky and put them at 135 with 4 retorques on my truck. I put 726 to wheels last year and not one problem.

Im buying used ones on my 04 build

Arp studs can be reused. It is stock headbolts that cannot be reused. They are torque to yeild which means they can only be torqued once. I bought my stud on ebay for $395 new for arp's.

I have used ARPs in several trucks, retorqued them too. Good studs. Depending on your plans with your twins, if you don't plan to boost over about 45, you really don't need them. Lots of guys boosting to 60 on stock studs, they just retorqued them up a little.

I am running twins and still running the stock studs. When I go to pull the cover I am installing ARPs rather than re-torquing the stockers. They can be done one at a time without affecting the head gasket. Might as well adjust the valves while the cover is off too.

ARP 625+ custom age alloy is the best studs you can buy. They are a little pricey $900-$1,100 but if you have your head orings and have these studs you'll never blow a gasket again. They torque down to 165 lbs and when they get there they literally lock down. I've broken regular ARP's and they will stretch, the 625's are incredibly strong

Got my ARP's for $393 from Jegs. My first time installing studs, found out after installed the studs are taller than the bolts. leaked oil like crazy!!! Had to grind where stud number 23 or 24 is, no problems now!!
