HE341 to 351 upgrade regrets

Anyone have regrets of doing the 341 to 351 turbo upgrade on an 03? Also how did it affect the low end throttle response? I would like to lower my EGT's but don't want to loose low end response, actually I would like more. Thanks

I don't think you'll have any regrets to be honest. I think the only changes between the turbos is compressor wheel size (?). I do know that the 351 measures 60/60/9cm. I know someone else can confirm or correct that info. If that is the case, you'll be pushing a little more air than the 341. Thus, maybe lower EGT's. Other than that, the turbine housing is the same size, 9cm so no increase in EGT's but same low-end spool.

No noticeable difference in low end here. I really didn't even notice a change in EGT's either. I'm running the Smarty SR on lvl 5 w/ a DR.Performance Stage ll pressure box. Temps stayed in check with the 341/351 on WOT 110mph pulls.

I'm still digging mine but I also added the larger elbow and full 4" downpipe and exhaust at the same time. Bottom end feels the same but you definitely feel more power on the top end. My egts stay very well in check no matter what I'm hauling or pulling too....

I'm going to do it when i get around to it, I think??? I was hoping you guys would make it a no brainer for me. I just picked up one off an 06 with 110K miles on it and it includes the 4 exhaust elbow. With that many miles on it I might send it in for a rebuild if it is questionable at all. Anyone have any suggestions on a good rebuild shop? Thanks

You will need a new downpipe and v-band clamp to fit that 4" elbow.

When I did mine, my only regret was that I didn't go with a better turbo after all the work involved changing it out. My egt's were slightly lower, I could tell no difference in performance at all.

My next turbo was an SPS62, MUCH BETTER, still using the factory 03 elbow and downpipe. Then I put a Silver 62 on, still using the factory 03 elbow and downpipe, that was a laggy, but very fun turbo(once it lit). I changed out the 03 elbow and downpipe to a full 4" system hoping for better spoolup and less lag, no such luck, made it laggier.

I think AH64ID has the right turbo setup for a stock replacement at the moment, you may want to look up his threads before you start this task. It's really not that bad of a job, after the first time...

when 12 volts is applied to the solenoid it opens up a port and bleeds some of the air back into the volute increasing the waste gate opening from 20 psi to 30 psi. remove the three o rings to prevent damaging them and cut the solenoid into about 7/8 inch above the base that mates to the turbo next cut the square part where the wrench go's deeper to make it easer to tighten up. i cut some more of the outer barrel off for looks but you do not have to. next remove any parts left in the center tube, you will be able to see all the way through the tube. tap the tube with a 1/8 in. npt. and install a 1/8 pipe plug. replace the o rings and install see pix http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...rljr48/161.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...rljr48/157.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...rljr48/150.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...rljr48/147.jpg
