Has anyone tried a Nelson 201108N Muffler?
Has anyone tried a Nelson 201108N Muffler?
About a month ago, I installed a 5" MagnaFlow turbo-back exhaust system. Overall, it's a little louder than I want, especially when getting into the throttle. Drone isn't terrible unloaded, but towing about 15,000 lbs., the drone is deafening from about 2000 - 2250 RPM's (only in 6th gear, though).
Anyway, I've been looking into the Donaldson/Nelson threads, but have found that the majority of them are for the long 44/51" mufflers. My only issue with this long of a muffler would be losing the use of one of the stock hangers if the muffler location isn't changed.
I've found a much shorter Nelson 201108N muffler that's 5" in/out, 9" diameter, and 22" body length (about 28" overall length).
Has anybody tried one of these short mufflers? I would expect the tone to get lower by going from the 7" diameter MagnaFlow muffler to a 9" diameter, but am not sure about noise levels with the 22" Nelson. At 22", it's probably about the same length as the MagnaFlow muffler, but I'd suspect it to be a little quieter.
Has anybody tried these shorter Nelson's? Also, information on Nelson's site is limited. Are these straight-through design, or baffled?
Thanks.

You are correct about the longer 51 inch mufflers. On the Quad cab, short bed the long 5 inch muffler does not fit without cutting the stock hanger. It is hard to find a 5 inch, 9 inch dia short muffler that will fit. I used a 5 inch, 8 inch dia resonator that was about 22 inch long. It was a straight thru design and fit nicely.

Click on type 1, should get a table, then clicking on "inlet #1 size" sorts by inlet size
(Why's it keep shortening my links?)
