H.O. style exhaust?
H.O. style exhaust?
is the H.O. exhaust the same as the regular. i found a good deal on a 5" straight pipe http://www.shopdiesel.com/index.cfm/...ct_id/1156.htm. 300 bucks but the site says h.o. truck style exhaust. does that matter. is there really a diffeence? i cant decide whether to do that or just go ahead and get stacks. just dont want to get rid of my toolbox. any help is appreciated.
You can do stacks If you really want to. I've seen many trucks running around on the streets with Stacks and a toolbox. It looks great, Just bump the toolbox back a bit to make room for the stacks. There are several members on here with pictures in their gallerys/
I dont believe there is any difference between H.O and S.O. exhaust either.

I believe the 03 and 04 HO has 3.5" from the turbo to the entry of the muffler where it steps up to 4" from there. 04.5 and up have 4" outlet at the turbo and is 4" pipe all the way.
That ad is kind of confusing, as it says 2003 Dodge at the top, but at the bottom it says "fits 2004.5-2006"...

In 03 and 04 there was a SO that was legal for California emission states, and the HO (555 ft/lbs) for everyone else.
04.5 saw the introduction of the 50 state legal 600, so they no longer offered two engines (and no longer used HO and SO designations). This is also when they upgraded to all 4" exhaust pipe.

Your truck is not a "HO" per se, since Dodge/Cummins only offer one engine from 04.5 and beyond. You already know you have the 600 engine and you do have 4 inch exhaust from the turbo to the tip. IF you want to upgrade to 5 inch pipes, that is your preference, but isnt needed unless you are planning on serious bombing. My recommendation would be to straight pipe it, unless you dont want it really loud. There are many posts on straight piping you could do a search and look into it. Have fun, hope it works out for you.

somebody wanted to sell me an elbow from the turbo to make it 4" but isnt it already 4"? i dont know what to do about exhaust. i heard a mbrp 5" turbo back the other day and it was the best soundin truck ive ever heard. but u cant hook he 5" right to the turbo can u. u might as well get a cat ack and pu a delete cat pipe. also mbrp is $ any extra advice would help. thanks
Your elbow is 4" in and out already on your 05. I just got one of those elbows for my 03 so I can get a 5" exhaust....
The 5" exhaust connects to the elbow, not the turbo itself.....
