What is the highest anyone has turned the tst up to with a stock transmission and turbo? Their website makes it sound real safe to use, but I have read of turbos going bad when stacking. I do not plan to stack though. I guess my real question is how much of the power that the tst makes will I actually be able to use without tearing my truck apart? Is their anything to worry about or am I just paranoid? Has anyone torn their truck up running the TST?

 

If you run above level 5 unloaded, you'll cause a small nuclear disaster in both your engine/turbo and tranny. Above level 2 or 3 towing does the same.

 

This is false. The auto part is true though! I have a 6spd 600 with the TST and I can run mine up to level 8 w/o any problems other than egt's. I made 450 HP on setting 8/4 and 1050 TQ. with about $1000 in mods, This box rocks just take some time in setting the wastegate up (35 lbs of boost max on stock turbo) and dont get to carried away with it. Towing on 3/3 and lower is no problem either (other than the trans) I can pull 8000 or so lbs worth of snowmobile trailer over Donner summit (7200+ft in elevation) on 4/4 without a problem. This box adds timing which helps with the EGT's a little. I would say your better off towing with this box than say an edge EZ because of the timing.

 

I'm on turbo # 4. Mattymac, you must be babying that go pedal too much.

The turbos and trannies on the 04.5s are much tougher than what's in your 03. I wouldn't expect the stock 03 to withstand much abuse at the levels mattymac is running. Definitely keep the numbers at 4 or below if your concerned about breaking stuff. This is from experience.

 

I'm getting mine this week, I plan on running it on 1 most of the time for timing only. Other than that, I doubt I will ever put it over 3 or maybe 4 with the truck being stock. Even that scares me a little, I have been considering just selling it and getting the Edge EZ.

 

Do the 04.5 have a different turbo than the 03?
And if so can I put one on my 03?

 

Different turbo yes....will it fit no! It was an electronicaly controlled wastegate too...there is nothing on a 03-04 to operate it.

 

IMO TST level 3-3 with Edge EZ level 4 is about all the stock turbo can handle. I'm hitting 39-40 lbs shifting into sixth, and then it settles to 36 with the stock elbow. That level of fueling produces a steady stream of smoke at WOT. I think your auto will give it up before you get to that level though.
