Got Snow, Truck sounds rough, Took out Beta 4.4, still loud at idle

Well we finally got our first foot of snow. The truck was sounding like a 7.3L at idle running TST 1/1 and Smarty Beta 4.4 on 4. I take Beta Smarty out...truck still sounds loud and rough. Turn off TST to 0/ and its still loud.
At any throttle other than idle the truck sounds great....like when the high idle comes on....but otherwise it is rough...

When I first stopped I had a #1 injector control circuit DTC so I cleared that and it never came back. I was thinking with all the salt spray on the road the TST injector harness might have gotten rotten on me so tomorrow I'll dielectric grease the injector harnesses but other than that the truck sounds like it has a miss at idle....
Can't blame a power adder unless its a harness but maybe its just temperature related...time for some Howes I guess.....no fuel heater with the FASS. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Kerry

i've used sea foam 100% in the filter cannister, has worked both times I had a rough idle problem. I've also had some trouble with the tst harness (one of the wires was loose in the plug)

Mine did the same thing with beta 4.4 so I took it back to stock and it was gone??? Not sure what's up.... But it wasn't too terribly cold then...???? Maybe my mp-8 harness needs greased too??? never thought of that?

The intake is clear right? I have had the intake pack with snow and it affects the way it runs. Your sig doesn't mention any intake mods, so I have to ask.

The Air filter is in need of a cleaning in the next couple of weeks for sure but it isn't poisonous. I dropped in a dose of Howes meaner cleaner and Howes diesel additive....and it has gotten a little quieter...but that tank isn't run through yet...There was quite a bit of water in the Fass and I drained it...I dropped off an oil analysis as the oil feels pretty thin compared to normal...first time ever with Amsoil versus others...but it is less sooty than others after 5000km or 3000 miles. The grids are cycling way more than my SO ever did for some reason and it is taking a while to warm up for sure...I noticed I'm down about a litre of coolant so I'm thinking the water pump is starting to go out....Kerry

The only time I get timing rattle with the Smarty is when it's cold outside.

Got all the way down to the 50's last night!

Brrrrr......

Don't know how some of you guys in the Great White North do it. I go into hibernation mode when temps drop into the 40's!

Sure that you aren't losing coolant into the oil, thinning it? If so, it can lose it's lubricity and cause alot of noise... I'd check it before you just assume that it's a water pump leak. Water in the oil isn't a good thing to miss...

Just my 2 cents.

The engine noise is unusual....at idle its loud....put it in reverse and its quiet.....put it in drive and its loud again...I'm taking it in on Friday morning to check out the water pump ... and get the Dodge tech to ear it... they are good to me... It's been so long since I heard a truck that is stock I can't tell what is loud or not...maybe I'm just missing working on the truck cause I'm working 16 hours a day....
I just got my last oil analysis back and all was good as far as I can tell...I gotta check out what a couple of the indexes mean but the report heading was ...all is good....viscosity was 14 on the Dually and 15 on the regular cab....I'm down a half liter of oil so I don't think I'm gaining anything. I'm 7000km into my Amsoil so I'll filler up and then send in a sample to see how much life it has left...it still smells good....It's unusual....Kerry

I have noticed a bit of timing rattle in mine ever since it has gotten colder out. Idle sounds the same though. It's when I first take off from a stop that I notice it. I have a DS Predator and Rokktech....

Sorry guys, I've been working nite and day to get the season wrapped up so I'm just getting back on here...Put the truck on the rack and some strange things....the sound goes away when I put it in reverse...When it is in N or D then I get the sound...we put the stethescope on it and the sound was coming from the bell housing...pulled the inspection cover off and it was definitely resonating in there....ATS five star... Thing is that the sound does go away sometime but it has been getting louder. I talked with the buddy who built the tranny and he thought the TC could be rattling some of its five clutches and might be on the way out. Not happy but it's only 6 or 8 months old so it's under warranty. It still hooks up good but I don't think it is locking as well as it used to. Kerry
