Good Valve Bodies...

Ok, well after this weekend's journey up north to Redding for the J&H Competition and consistently seeing 200-205 degree tranny temps 3/4 of the way back home UNLOADED and traveling at 80mph, I have decided that valve bodies and a deep pan are in my VERY near future...so let's hear some opinions aftermarket valve body guys...I'm all ears!

I don't think a VB will help your temps. High temps are caused from a slipping converter - either excessively when it is suppose to be slipping a little or slipping when it's not suppose to be.

What you need is a TC. Dave Goerend triple disc with lifetime warranty!

How was my TC slipping with both of my boxes turned OFF when it was locked and I was driving on MOSTLY flat ground? I only have 16,500 miles on my truck and I don't beat on it...Trust me, I WANT a TC and will be getting one soon, but I am thinking that the restricted stock flow of the stock valve bodies is more likely to be causing the high temp problems.

Even at a redlight in the city (sometimes traffic out here is RIDICULOUS) while sitting in neutral, my temps will get up to 190-195...now I KNOW that isn't from a slipping TC.

well your tc isnt going to be locked when your at a light, so its going to be building heat. if your seeing temps in the 200s while driving at 80, you have a problem. check the fluid level and there is a possibility the gauge is wrong. where are you getting the reading from?

When I am at a redlight, I put the truck in neutral so that the fluid flows freely. When it is in gear, there is much more of a strain on things (TC) and that is how the heat really builds up...taking it out of gear at a light should allow the temps to at LEAST maintain what they were at when you got to the red light rather than rise...My temps are being read off of my Attitude monitor via my ECM...I'm pretty sure those numbers are accurate. I know that there is a problem and since my tranny is fairly new and doesn't get whipped on, all I can think of is poor flow...my fluid levels are fine. I check that stuff every time I fill up...some people might clal me overly cautious about some stuff...but when it comes to a $50k truck, I don't think it can hurt anything.

I'm not a tranny expert, but something is going on with yours. Keep in mind that 205* is nothing to really be concerned about, but when you start towing something heavy it could go a lot higher. You may want to verify/compare the accuracy of your current gage with another one, maybe a mechanical. I don't see 200* out of mine towing much less empty.

A trans pan will only enable you to hold more fluid. In the short run it would stay cooler, but an hour at 80mph will have all of your fluid at a higher than normal temp which would give a longer cool down period.

I would seriously consider a TC and a VB as a single upgrade.

I would LOVE to do this...but valve bodies is something that I can do in about an hours time by myself. TC = dropped tranny and a FEW hours of pretty hard labor. I don't have the tools or other things required, such as a tranny jack, etc to do anything like that myself and on top of that, I don't know anybody in the San Diego area that comes as a reference from any of the big distributors.

I would MUCH prefer to do the full tranny build when a new TC goes in, because if I can keep the number of times my tranny gets dropped at a minimum, that would be great.

I just had a Suncoast TC/VB installed and absolutely love it. My tranny shifts great and runs about 15 degrees cooler. With the Suncoast TC/VB the fluid flows in all gears, including park, that is where I noticed the biggest change in tranny temps.
