Give me your advice on a turbo for me...
I know it's long but please give me your opinions.
I have a question for you about turbos. You may or may not be able to give me any info, but I am looking for turbo's in the 62/??/13ss or around this size maybe even with a 12cm exhaust housing, i'm not sure what size compressor wheel I should go with so give me some ideas there after you finish reading. I am about to start hot shoting in the oilfield since our family has started a oilfield service company and I am looking for a little more power. My plans are to beef up the tranny to whatever point required, possibly adding a fuel system with better filtering or just a GDP 2 micron filter first. From there I'm looking at adding a smarty to run on lower levels when towing since I will be capable of grossing around 35K (won't be all the time) with the gooseneck, but when I'm not towing I want to be able to run the smarty a little higher and use my X2 to add a little pressure to the mix (I know with my setup I will not be able to crank the smarty up all the way and i'm fine with that but want to have about 450hp to play with when not towing). Now back to my main question, I know these trucks already run hot completely stock when towing a loaded down 40' gooseneck and I would like to lower the EGT's without causing to much lag so I am looking at a smaller turbo that can handle a the smarty around 60hp while working and keep the EGT's at stock levels or lower than stock. But at the same time support higher HP than the stock turbo for when the trailer is not hooked up. I'm looking to keep it simple to try and maintain reliability with this truck.
I know that doing any of this can/will hender the reliability and that changing the turbo I will most likely experience some lag at some point and I am ok with that. I will compromise to make it work for me both towing and playing. All my playing is just on road, I won't be doing track stuff, just one of those you know you have type of things.
Sorry for the long post but please give me your advice here.
TIA

Since you tow heavy and don't plan to exceed 500hp, it sounds like smaller would be the way to go...like a 62/65/13SS. I think a 64 compressor and/or a 71 turbine wheel would be too laggy for the power level you'll be towing at.
You might actually be better off with the stock turbo. It cools 450hp just fine and will give you lower cruising/towing EGT's.

I have an HTT 62/65/13 SS and LOVE it. Would get same one again. NO LAG at all. Will bark dual rear wheels in 4th gear. If wet on Interstate, going 65mph, stomp it and it breaks the tires loose. I got it in case I ever tow more than I do now, but it is a hoot to play around with.
