Geno's straight pipe
I just purchased the Muffler Eliminator kit from Geno's and need some advice on taking the stock muffler off. What tricks have you guys used in getting it off? I'd like to cause the least amount of damage in case I need to put it back on.

I would take it to a muffler shop and tell them you want to save the muffler. Easy work for them will be a royal pain in the rear for you.
They'll probably have to cut the clamps off with a torch and heat the nipples cherry red on the muffler to get it off without damage. Normaly you can take your torch and slice each side of each nipple and it will fall right off.

Wish I could help but I used an air chisel and managled the muffler Worked great and was almost fun Used a body type chisel that cuts a 1/8" ribbon off, looking at it I am sure the gap could be welded and then reinstalled. But who would ever want to do that!

Yes I'm leaving the CAT on, Utah's pretty strict about that kinda stuff, thats why I'm trying to save the muffler for inspection time.....

I think it sounds good on my truck, but people in the right lane might not like it to much. It is much louder than stock on accelleration but at cruise while empty it is about the same. If you tow a lot, you probably wont like it after the first hundred miles because of the drone in the cab.

Don't even bother saving the stock muffler.
If you decide you don't like the straight pipe, get a straight through truck muffler.
The stock muffler is junk.

So whats the trick of cutting it off, but leaving enough pipe for the MEP to hook on too? Or does the MEP account for you having to cut the muffler at the nipple?
