gauges before smarty jr???
OK, just got done reading about smarty jr and it looks like the one i want to get. Im stock everything on engine. Im concerned about gauges, I will get gauges in the future but I really want that smarty jr and cant afford both. Do you think it would be safe to use smarty jr with out gauges?? Looks like the smarty jr keeps egt's down well. Im new to the engine mod stuff so your input would be very helpful!

Every truck is different. A lot of things come into play when it comes to egt's. Some can have high egt's with a certain power adder and others have egt's that are perfectly normal. If you were to have one gauge it would need to be an egt gauge. Gauges are a must IMO with any power adder.

Maybe it would be a good idea to at least get a egt gauge. I think there around 130$ plus mount.

I installed a pyro before loading Smarty Jr. I monitored my EGT for a week so I had a baseline to compare before and after temps.
Based on my limted experience with Smarty Jr., the EGT was very similar or slightly lower with Smarty Jr. loaded on SW#1. YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY.
I think it's a good idea to have at least an EGT just in case temps go up for reasons like lugging the engine, etc. on the higher SW settings.
I would not perform any performance engine mod without at least an EGT gauge. That's my 2 cents...

Smarty Jr. or Smarty Sr. does not have turbo cool down timers.
Here's a link to where you can look at some guages www.genosgarage.com I'am not affiliated with these guys in any way. Had to throw that in there so hopefully I don't get another check mark in my records for advertising. Hell I've never advertised yet as I don't own anything to sell, just pass along information and I still get the finger pointed at.

If you buy all the gauges together Diesel Manor has a great kit with just about everything you need. And if your/where milatary you get 10% off. We have a 3 pod with fuel pressure, EGT and boost.
