garrett turbos

Has anyone or know anyone that has ran a garrett turbo on thair 06 to 07 5.9's. I am gooing to shoot for around 500hp. My plan is small sticks, smarty, fuel system, the exhaust (manafold, cant spell), air intake, intercooler, thats about it. but like to have a little more info on the garrett.

You can run reliably at 500hp without the intercooler for sure. As for the turbo don't see too much garrett info out there for our trucks but you can run a standard II or HTT turbo (62 series) and get 500 just fine.

The Garrett got within a hair's breadth of 500hp on a 12v head.

With your better 3rd gen airflow, the Garrett should make 500hp with no problems.

It should also outspool ANY turbo that can make 500hp on a CTD.

Just installed a stage 2 garrett about a month ago. I love this thing spool is way quick, pulls harder and egt's are down. Currently running at 35 lbs boost but may add an MP-8 or stix's soon to bring that up.

What he said... the stage 3 gt3788r is good to 550 hp and will outspool anything in its class by a wide margin. I'm running Garrett twins on mine and am in love with them... 708 hp so far... but you can run my same twins with 300 hp and still have spool as fast (if not faster) than stock and still have all that room to 700hp.

For your purpose, the single turbo is just fine and you would be very happy.

When they first came out for the diesels I think the cost scared many away although they have come down in price. They just are not mainstream yet.The install takes a little longer due to it being water cooled.I have not run any of the other turbo's but am very happy with this one so far.

Most are right around the 2k range depending on size and options of course. But a lot of folks also get a turbo like yours for the top in a twins set up and opt for a k31/ht3b/s400 for a primary. The primaries I listed can be had for around $400-500 if you shop right. Between the two turbos that is a savings of close to $2k alone over BB turbos. But while you can match the airflow, you cannot match the spool and drivability.
