True, but many folks buy their first turbo with the twins as a later consideration. Yes, as a single, depending on the turbo, it can be anywhere from a couple of hundred to close to a thousand more... you were comparing a turbo that is already on the upper end of pricing compared to say just a simple ps62 which is hundreds less than your turbo.

like the others said, the install would scare most people away.

the oil line/fitting/drain is already there from the factory, not so hard, in my opinion

The install does have an extra step, but not complicated. The rest is just like any other turbo out there. That extra step is the running of the coolant line. A "T" off the heater core line going in then going to the coolant return at the front of the block. Really not a big deal.

How do these turbos work as singles. I am battling the high elevation factor and the htt 62/65/13ss is not working that well with the 1.8's. I am planning on doing twins but want to find a single that will spool and cool down the setup I have now. What are the options that raise the price. I have not seen any options online. Please pm me if you have anything I should now about this setup.

I've heard they work exceedingly well as singles.

If you have higher elevation, stay with the stage 1 or 2 (pref 2) because they have a slightly smaller housing that spools even faster.

Are there any durability issues with the Garretts?I have heard the shaft is not as stout as many of the S300 based turbo's.

Urban myth...

In fact I'd be willing to bet Garretts are stronger over the long haul, but I don't have any hard data to back that claim. But you can say I already put my money where my mouth is..

What is true is that Garretts are the turbo of choice for many of the highest performing gassers from indy car, F1, 24 hrs of LeMans, NHRA... you get the idea...

If they are good enough for million dollar cars where absolute performance and reliability are paramount, then it should be good enough for lil ol me....

I predict in 1-2 months there will be a garrett twins club after this thread. Soul will be number one.

Yes they did, just before they went to the variable vane turbos... you know the ones that caused all the problems on the 6.0-no with vanes choking up with soot and getting stuck.

I suppose I should get my exhaust problem fixed so I can install the Garrett turbo I have sitting in the garage. I can't wait to see how it works.

I have seen Souleezo's Twins (before all the fab work was done). Nice looking chargers!

99-2003 PSD came with garrett turbos but not the BB type(thrust bearings).I had an 02 and installed a garrett bb turbo and it spooled awesome, even stock.I had it on for 40k miles without an issue. The concern with the bb turbos is that some say they cannot be rebuilt and some question the durability of the bb turbos at high boost levels. One thing I added a SC triple disk TC with full built tranny and the very tight TC slowed spoolup on the bb turbo, just an observation.

It is true the BB turbos cannot be rebuilt in the same fashion that journal bearing turbos can. While it is not a "best case" scenario, Garrett has a program to replace a failed BB turbo at a deep discount. So there is some protection there.

As far as the reliability, I know of no hard evidence or data to suggest that these turbos are less reliable or more so than any other.
