Fuel pressure

Pondering the idea of adding a fuel pressure guage without spending a lot of money. What is the easiest way to do it and what do I need? Or do I even need a FP guage?

In most cases the fuel gauge is for monitoring and is not typically needed. That said I have the 6 speed and don't need a trany gauge so I've opted to fill the third hole in the dash mount with the fuel pressure gauge.

Go to www.glacierdieselpower.com and look at pics of Factory L.P. and read the article about it. Your will be suprised at the Mickey Mouse Factory setup. With your box it would be cool to know how low you pulled it down when rompin on it. I have a Commander and the FP guage has never been accurate.(However it does read 16 lbs now when it read 0-5 before with Fact. L.P. with manual guage it was about 8-9lbs idle. before glacier performance setup. There are others that can tell you a better one to get I'm sure.

Thanks. Very interesting article. I would love to upgrade to an aftermarket lift pump but its not high on my list right now. I would however feel more comfortable being able to keep an eye on the pressure. I would also know when i complete future mods, when i am at the limit of my factory pump. Im saving for a house right know and the next coin that gets put into my truck will be a tranny. After that I would like to be able to run the juice higher and probably HOT upgrade. Maybe stack a mild pressure box too. But I don't want to kill my CP-3 because my factory pump can't keep up. Id like to be able to monitor fuel pressure now though and im not sure what I need. I like the fuel filter cap with the port tapped into it from geno's. what else do i need to hook to it as far as isolators, senders, etc. I'm not wanting to spend a bundle either. Thanks for the help.

bighornram......here's a few pics of my fuel pressure gauge install. The gauge is made by DiPricol and is installed into an SRT/10 A-pillar.

Fuel pressure is not nearly as important on the HPCR CTD's as it is on the VP44 CTD's........if the fuel pressure is too low or non-existent on a VP44 truck, injector pump life is more or less done. On a HPCR truck, the truck just stops running, and can generally be re-started after a new pump has been installed. A fuel pressure gauge also lets you know if you're beginning to get a restriction in the fuel filter, too.

Lift pump replacements on the 2nd GEN and '03-'05 trucks get the new in-tank version, as opposed to the engine / fuel filter housing mounted version. Sometime during the '05 model year, DC started installing the lift pumps in-tank. If mine goes out during warranty (I'm at 47k now) I think I'll just eat the price of the new pump and keep mine at the existing external location. At least it could be easily changed along the road side if need be.

I previously ran an EDGE EZ on my truck, and it would really drop the pressure to zero fast. My Juice w/Attitude makes more power, but the fuel pressure doesn't drop nearly as low or as fast. Supposedly there isn't a specification for pressure, just volume, on the HPCR's.

Personally I'd skip the fuel filter cap method and get a measurement at the CP3 inlet side.

Greg

"Fuel Pressure" gauge ab $250 or you can get a$10-$20 oil or air pressure gauge that does the same thing . Anything that will measure PSI will work might not look as good but it will def work . Best advice is to get one tho.
