First Time Dyno--Technique/Smarty Settings?

I was looking for some tips/tricks to get the most out of my dyno pulls this weekend. I will be goin down to Greeley for their dyno day and this will be my first time on a dyno. First question...What settings would you guys recommend for the smarty? I will be running the Revo software, what should I set my Sw# at? I read that some guys were getting better numbers running sw 7 over 9? Thoughts? Also, what settings on tm, it, and rp? I would really like to load sw7 and 9, but I was told we will not be able to load different software in between runs (3 runs total).

Any other tips/tricks or things I should do before and after? Or just grip it and rip it?? Last but not least...guesses on what type of number ill be able to put down?

Thanks
Alex

I've never dyno'd before, so I am interested in any guidelines as well. My truck seems to run the best on #5, all the higher settings just seem to add more smoke but no more power.

Do you still have the stock canister mounted fuel pump??? If so try rail pressure 2 on sw catcher 7,timing default#2 and wild TM with your tranny.

Just my 2 cents

Yes, the fuel system is still stock on the truck. For daily driving I use rail pressure 2, torque man. 3 and Injection timing 2 with wastegate off. I just set it at Sw9 and use the pod to tune from there.

It sucks not being able to make a software change in between pulls, not matter what I pick it will drive me crazy not knowing what the other levels run. But at the same time I understand if everyone where to make a change in between runs, we would never get done.

Tomorrow ill load up sw7 and sw9 and see what my butt dyno tells me.

Anyone else???

I wouldn't bother with SW9. I think you'll run out of fuel before you can take advantage of any extra power it may make.

What is the limiting factor though? Do you think the injection pump won't be able to maintain rail pressure, or the lift pump can't keep up? My truck seems to run OK on SW7, but no fuel gauges yet. I'm waiting on the new Quad stuff before I buy anything....

I have no idea. I was hoping somebody would be able to shed a little light on that topic. I was just looking to hopefully get the best numbers out of my 3 runs on the dyno this weekend.

I also do not have fuel gauges yet.

download revo/tnt and load it on lvl7 for the dyno runs with torque 4 timing 0 and rail 4.....this isnt recommended on a stock fuel set up but will definatley yield you the best numbers.

They moved that dyno day to PFI in Fort Collins. There were some scheduleing conflicts so it was moved. Do a google search or check the cummins forum for more details.

Can I switch back to the Revo software after the dyno runs? That is definately not the software I would want to have on their everyday at this time.

I just read the page of disclaimers and liability along with the instructions for the tnt revo settings..lol..that looks like a good way to break something.

The lift pump would probably not be able to keep up. Sometimes a stocker will surprise you though. If you have time run both SW's but if not I would run SW7 with one of the settings suggested here.

They said I would probably not be able to change softwares. Thats why I was looking for opinions, to try and get the best run possible incase I do not get to change.

I was going to load up sw7 and sw9 (revo, not tnt) and do a seat of the pants test but....it would be rather difficult and dangerous considering we have gotten probably 3 inches of snow here today with more coming. So there goes that idea.

Do you mean sw7 with the revo software or with the revo tnt software that was mentioned above by wyodsl??

I would run the TnT on SW7, TM3, RP2 or 3 and Timing 0.

The butt dyno may feel stronger but that can be deceiving because on SW9 it'll get out of the hole great but I'm thinking on the top end you'll run out of fuel where as SW7 will get up a little slower but pull stronger to the top.
