I see that alot of guys on here run a 2 micron filter between their lift pump and cp3. My question is the FASS System uses those big filters, but do they filter down to 2 microns? I like the added protection of the 2 micron filter that you can buy from GDP, but before I went and spent $189 for it, I wanted to check if the FASS System did that too.

 

Fleetguard HF6604 is a 3 micron rated filter that fits the FASS systems. I have had that filter on mine for around 50k or so.

 

I'm pretty new to Deisels and I was wondering, why a FASS system is so important. What is the actual advantage to having one as opposed to not and does it really seperate fuel and air as the name implies and is that an advantage?

air in the fuel is bad thats all i know and the main reason i bought it was the flow cap of the pump over stock im sure someone on here will be more tec and i can learn why its bad all i know is that its not a good thing to have a bunch of air in the fuel but how much does the fass really help in removing or sep the two and does it have that much of an impact on the performace or even the operation of the motor that is what i would like to know

 

if you wanna save some cash you can get a Airdog and it filters down to 3 microns too...(on sale right now for $500)lot of good info on air in fuel on their site too.....http://www.pureflowtechnologies.com/ yeah I know you asked about the FASS but the AD is a sweet pump set up as well and it's on sale for a sweet price..you cant barely buy a GDP with big line and 2 micron filter for that price.just my.02

 

plus with the legal battles that are going on with FASS and AirDog, I don't know if I would want a FASS if they go out of business.

They would have to be a really lame dealer and not one I would ever do any kind of business with. Better filtration is always a good thing. Your injectors like clean pure fuel and should last longer with it. I'd like to have an Airdog myself.

 

Well I think a good fuel system is a must....for me I wanted air separation and good filtration in one small package....I did by a new truck and I researched fuel system's till I was blue in the face. Airdog did all the things I wanted.
as for when to get it...I would say before you put a programmer or chip/module on or truck......but it took me until I got the smarty on and a fuel pressure gauge to see my FP sucking down to 0..then I knew I HAD to get one...

I talked to my dealer (because they are known for killing warranties) and asked them about upgraded filtration and they were all for it as long as I took it in for them to inspect it for proper installation and nothing was hacked up. i am very **** when it comes to installing anything on my rig but i will be getting it in writing before i do install the AirDog. Either way, it is going on the truck. the way i look at it, this thing has to last me and imporved filtration is the key. the dealer or the mfg is not making my payments and until they do, then that is another story.

If air in fuel is a known fact, Ref. Cummins Service Topic 5-135 and Caterpillar Special Instruction 651-1250, and air in the fuel is known to cause permanent damage to fuel system components as well a variety of performance issues, wouldn't it be more logical for the engine manufacturer to void your warranty if you used a fuel filter product that didn't remove the air from the fuel rather than one that did remove the air from the fuel?

I've got 600,000 miles on my fuel preprator, that's the big truck AirDog, with no issues. I just change the filters 'bout every 100,000.

The AirDog , IMHO, has better build quality and components. It's smaller than the FASS and I know it's not as loud.AirDog on the right and FASS on the left.

 

We have a filter that goes down to 3um. Its rated for 50 GPM at that micron rating. At the max flow our pumps put out.....we are only pushing about 3.33 GPM. So not even stressing the filters. Another note is that our pumps are constantly circulating fuel between the tank and pump at full volume. Meaning that you are running 95, 120, 150 or 200 Gallons of fuel an hour through our filters. Polishing if you will.
