My truck needs a muffler. The stock system (which is still on it) has a hole in the muffler, and the tailpipe is bent from when I backed into something a few years ago -- and it's rubbing on my newly-installed airbags (on the RH side).

I see two choices:

1. an MBRP aluminized cat-back system, 4" for $385

2. Rock Auto muffler and tailpipe for $135 + S&H

I can install either myself.

I know the "ideal" choice is #1, but cash is tight right now, so I'm wondering if the Rock Auto one will be satisfactory and flow at least as well as the stock system. EGTs are pretty decent; only mods being an S&B intake and Smarty. Future mods may include a turbo (for towing performance) and new injectors with +60 or +90 nozzles. Also considering swapping the Smarty for a TST PM3.

Thoughts?

I went with the Diamond Eye stainless Steel cat-back 4" system. My previous system was a straight pipe from the cat. It was disintegrating from rust. The new system includes a long straight-through muffler and I am pleased. I kinda miss the rumble, but it's nice to carry on a conversation at a reasonable volume level while driving down the highway now. Bought my system through Diesel Power Products.
